1) With 259 SO this season, Curt Schilling is just the 7th different pitcher to have a 250+ SO season at age 35 or older.

2) The Angels placed P Aaron Sele on the 15 day DL and either called up P Mark Lukasiewicz or will make that move official today.

Sele has a torn muscle in his shoulder. According to MGR Mike Scioscia the "very optimistic scenario" is for him to return in 2-3 weeks. After 4.51 ERA/0 RSAA and 3.60 ERA/14 RSAA the past 2 years, Sele's off to a 4.91 ERA/-13 RSAA start in his first 25 starts. He has a 4.39 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.69, and 58 RSAA in 267 games.

After a 6.04 ERA/-3 RSAA in 24 games as a 28 year old rookie in 2001, Lukasiewicz is off to a 3.48 ERA/1 RSAA start in his 14 games.

3) Twins P Joe Mays had to leave yesterday's game, after suffering a bruised right thumb when he was hit by a ball.

4) The Mets sent INF Marco Scutaro to the minors and called up OF Raul Gonzalez.

Scutaro's off to a .429 OPS/-3 RCAA start in his first 13 major league games (15 PA).

Gonzalez, 28, has a .597 OPS/-2 RCAA in 25 major league games (45 PA) with the Cubs, Reds and now Mets over the past 3 years. He was just acquired as the PTBNL in the Shawn Estes deal.

5) Reds SS Barry Larkin had to leave yesterday's game, due to tightness in his neck.

After 11 RCAA/.876 OPS and 1 RCAA/.745 OPS the past 2 years, Larkin's off to a .372 SLG, .304 OBA,. 676 OPS, -18 RCAA start in his first 114 games. He has a .822 career OPS, compared to his league average of .748, and 291 RCAA in 1968 games.

6) Rangers LF Rusty Greer will have surgery today to remove a disc and have a couple of vertebrae in his neck fused.

Greer's had another injured plagued season in which he's spent most of the year on the DL. When in the lineup, he hit .377 SLG, .356 OBA, .733 OPS, -5 RCAA in 51 games and has a .865 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 149 RCAA in 1027 games.

7) The Diamondbacks placed P Greg Swindell on the 15 day DL, sent C Rod Barajas to the minors and called up INF Alex Cintron and P Eddie Oropesa.

Swindell has a strained lower back. After 3.20 ERA/13 RSAA and 4.53 ERA/1 RSAA the past 2 years, he's off to a 4.71 ERA/-1 RSAA start in his first 27 games. He has a 3.83 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.12, and 66 RSAA in 657 games.

After a .464 OPS/-13 RCAA season as a 25 year old rookie in 2001 (he also played 5 games in both 1999 & 2000), Barajas is off to a .333 SLG, .279 OBA, .612 OPS, -11 RCAA start in his first 52 games.

Cintron, a 23 year old rookie who also appeared in 8 games last year, is off to a .756 OPS/-1 RCAA start in his first 17 games.

After a 4.74 ERA/-1 RSAA in 30 games as a 29 year old rookie with the 2001 Phillies, Oropesa is off to a 7.48 ERA/-7 RSAA start in his first 27 games.

8) Expos P Masato Yoshii had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained lower back.

After 5.85 ERA/6 RSAA and 4.78 ERA/-1 RSAA the past 2 years, Yoshii's off to a 3.65 ERA/5 RSAA start in his first 27 games (16 starts). He has a 4.56 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.41, and 13 RSAA in 158 games.

9) A's P Corey Lidle raised his scoreless innings streak to 31.

After 5.03 ERA/-1 RSAA and 3.59 ERA/15 RSAA the past 2 years, Lidle's off to a 4.04 ERA/12 RSAA start in his first 24 games (23 starts). He has a 4.01 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.52, and 31 RSAA in 143 games.

10) Whitesox DH Frank Thomas was given a day off.

After 72 RCAA/1.061 OPS and 0 RCAA/.758 OPS the past 2 years, Thomas is off to a .433 SLG, .337 OBA, .771 OPS, 0 RCAA start in his first 118 games. He has a .998 career OPS, compared to his league average of .762, and 716 RCAA in 1668 games.

Thomas dropped off the 1.000 career OPS list, while Manny Ramirez passed the 5000 PA mark earlier in the year (he currently has 5081) and has joined that list.
