Red face Alotta Sad Fans This AM

Yesterday, in 15 big league games, 10 teams lost by 1 run last night.

If the Padres and Cubs each could have mustered one more run, it would have been 12 teams in 15 games. Heck, if the O's could have managed to score 2 runs, it would have been 13 teams in 15 games.................

Those "powerhouse" Expos and Chisox, who won by 7 and 8 runs (respectively) are the only reason why MLB didn't have a 100% "close" night.

Still, I have to think that 10 teams losing by 1 run in the same day has to be near a record.

Bosox, Tribe, 'Stros, Yankee, Cards, Halo, Marlin, D'Ray, Phillie and Giant fans can all cry in a collective beer this AM.

As the Yankee fan who started this thread, let me be the one to kick it off........

On the flip side, I guess Twin, Ranger, Bravos, A's, Met, Jays, D'back, Royals, Dodger, and Bucs fans are feeling pretty good...........

Such is the game of baseball. The close ones are the best, but they hurt the most.

PS - Johnny - I'll go off the board for Laura Ballance....

Happily (for me and other A's fans) the A's are 23-8 in one run games. What is the record for that sort of thing? Is that entirely fluke or do they have some sort of mojo?

(Within hours of posting this, the A's lost 2-1 to Toronto despite a leadoff triple in the ninth. I wonder if I could jinx John Ashcroft so well.)

Fluke, chance, luck, kismet, for the most part. A good pen helps, too. But a .600 team should really play about .600 in every type of game.

both - there are the one run games that are 0-0 in the 20th inning that you win with good hitting and good relievers, and there are the one run games that you win 7-6, after being up 7-0 in the second inning.
