These are the rules...
1. The 2003 BBWAA Ballot will be posted on August 1, 2002 - tomorrow - in its own thread. It will list the 16 players who received between 5-75% support in 2002 and who have spent fewer than 15 years on the ballot so far. 2. The ballot will also include the names of newly eligible candidates (who retired in or after the 1997 season and haven't played in the Majors since). I may miss a few names here and there (hopefully no one who is a serious candidate) and those I neglect to add to the ballot are certainly available to voters as write-in candidates. 3. Only players mentioned in the above two rules are eligible to be voted for. Pete Rose, Joe Jackson and any other "banned" player is ineligible. Players who have been dropped from previous BBWAA ballots (Ted Simmons, Ron Guidry, Lou Whitaker) are ineligible for votes. Votes for ineligible players will be null and void. 4. Voters may vote only once and may vote for anywhere from zero to ten candidates. If you intend to vote for zero candidates, please indicate so with a note - something more than just a blank e-mail. If you vote for more than ten candidates, none of your votes will count and your ballot will be disqualified. 4. Ballots are to be mailed to me at brad@getgoin.net anytime thru the 25th of the month. Results will be tabulated and posted thereafter in the thread for the ballot in question. 5. Feel free to discuss the relative merits of candidates within the thread. You are free to tell others who you are voting for and why, if you choose. 6. Players who receive 75% or more support on the ballots will be elected. Players who receive less than 5% - or who have appeared on 15 ballots without gaining election - will be dropped. 7. A new ballot will be created based on the rules above, adding newly eligible players. It will follow all the same rules as above. So, the "2004 BBWAA ballot" will be created based on how we vote in August and it will be posted (with 1998 retirees being added this time) on September 1. So on and so forth for roughly six months until we run out of newly retired players to add. Each ballot will have its own thread. |

Klu, I think this is a great idea. You know in December and January the BBWAA vote for 2003 inductees will be a major topic here.

The Rules
1. Below is the 2003 BBWAA Ballot. It lists 20 players who have been carried over from last year's ballot as well as four "freshmen" players who are newly eligible for consideration. There are other newly eligible candidates (who retired in or after the 1997 season and haven't played in the Major Leagues since and played in all or part of 10 seasons in the Major Leagues). Any such player is available as a write-in candidate. Only players who fit the above description are eligible to be voted for. Any vote cast for an ineligible player will be null and void. 2. Voters may vote only once per individual and may vote for anywhere from zero to ten candidates. If you intend to vote for zero candidates, please indicate so with a note - something more than just a blank e-mail. If you vote for more than ten candidates, none of your votes will count and your ballot will be disqualified. 3. Ballots are to be e-mailed to me at brad@getgoin.net before August 26, 2002. The results will be tabulated and posted on the 26th of this month, in this thread. Please include your username within the text of the e-mail - to make record keeping easier. 4. Feel free to discuss the relative merits of candidates within this thread. You are free to tell others who you are voting for and why, if you choose. 5. Players who receive 75% or more support on the ballot will be elected to the Hall of Fame. This year's ballot - 2002 - saw one such electee. Ozzie Smith. 6. Players who receive less than 5% support, or who have appeared on 15 ballots and not been elected, will be dropped from the ballot permanently. NOTE: The 2004 BBWAA Ballot will be created based on what transpires in this thread. It will be posted in a separate thread on September 1, 2002. It will follow all the same rules as this ballot does. This is an on-going project and will continue the remainder of this calendar year, leading into the actual BBWAA election. Enjoy! |

Klu---aren't there more players on the ballot? You have the top candidates here, but I don't think it's complete.
I'll cast votes for Carter, Sutter, Gossage, John, Blyleven, Kaat, Trammell, Murray, and Sandberg, total of 9. |

I'm going to disobey you and write in a candidate...and also post the ballot here because I'm lazy:
1. Gary Carter 2. Jim Rice 3. Bert Blyleven 4. Tommy John 5. Andre Dawson 6. Dale Murphy 7. Eddie Murray 8. Ryne Sandberg 9. Lee Smith 10. Brett Butler (write-in) There should probably be at least 10-12 new guys a year on the ballot. Along with Butler, those ideas would include Tartabull, Tettleton, Seitzer, Pena, Coleman, Worrell, and even Mitch Williams. But other then Butler, none of those guys look like hall of famers, so there's probably a reason the ballot is trunucated. Last edited by LeGrandOrange : 08-01-2002 at 10:23 AM. |
