1) The Expos traded OF Cliff Floyd to the Redsox for minor league Ps Sung Jun Song and Sun Woo Kim.

After 31 RCAA/.906 OPS and 53 RCAA/.968 OPS the past 2 years, Floyd's off to a .519 SLG, .394 OBA, .912 OPS, 30 RCAA start in his first 99 games. He has a .850 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 121 RCAA in 908 games.

Song, 22, came into the year with a 2.19 ERA in 3 minor league seasons, including a 2.04 ERA in 14 starts in A ball and 1.68 ERA in 8 starts in Hi-A in 2001. He's off to a 4.39 ERA start in AA and was given a B+ grade by the Minor League Scouting Notebook, which ranked him as the 47th best prospect in baseball.

After a 5.83 ERA/-6 RSAA in 20 games (2 starts) as a 23 year old rookie in 2001, Kim's off to a 7.45 ERA/-9 RSAA start in his first 15 games (2 starts). He came into the year with a 5.24 ERA in 4 minor league seasons, including a 5.36 ERA in AAA in 2001 and has a 3.18 ERA in 8 AAA starts this year. Kim was given a C grade by the MLSN.

2) The Indians traded P Ricardo Rincon to the A's for minor league SS Marshall McDougall. The A's designated P Mike Magnante for assignment, to make room on the roster for Rincon.

After 2.70 ERA/5 RSAA and 2.83 ERA/10 RSAA the past 2 years, Rincon's off to a 4.79 ERA/-1 RSAA start in his first 46 games. He has a 3.48 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.46, and 33 RSAA in 329 games.

McDougall, 23, came into the year with a .749 OPS (.331 OBA, .418 SLG) in 2 minor league seasons, in Low-A and Hi-A. He's off to a .860 OPS (.374 OBA, .486 SLG) start in AA this year and was given a C grade by the MLSN.

3) Marlins C Charles Johnson missed yesterday's game, due to a sore thumb, and could miss a few more days.

Johnson's 32 RCAA in 2001 was just the 2nd positive figure of his career (he also had 2 RCAA season in 1997 and this excludes a positive figure in just a 4 game callup in 1994). Johnson dropped to 0 RCAA in 2001 and is off to a .360 SLG, .315 OBA, .675 OPS, -9 RCAA start in his first 65 games. He has a .764 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and -20 RCAA in 934 games.

4) A's 3B Eric Chavez missed yesterday's game, due to a mild hamstring problem, and will probably be kept out of today's game, for precautionary reasons.

After 14 RCAA/.850 OPS and 27 RCAA/.878 OPS the past 2 years, Chavez's off to a .509 SLG, .341 OBA, .851 OPS, 8 RCAA start in his first 100 games. He has a .840 career OPS, compared to his league average of .776, and 47 RCAA in 535 games.

5) Twins CF Torii Hunter was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to a strained left hip flexor, and is day to day.

Hunter's having the first positive RCAA of his career, hitting .587 SLG, .360 OBA, .947 OPS, 27 RCAA in his first 101 games. He has a .787 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and -21 RCAA in 490 games.

6) The Cardinals called up P Mat Duff.

Duff's a 27 year old with a 1.06 ERA in AA and there are no reports linking him to any relationship to Duff beer.

7) The Royals called up P Brian Meadows and sent P Mike Lincoln to the minors.

Meadows's -72 RSAA, from 1998-2001, is tied with Jimmy Haynes for the 2nd worst figure in the majors, ahead of only Jamie Navarro's -79. He'll make his 2002 debut tomorrow, when he takes Joe Beimel's place in the rotation.

After 10.89 ERA/-13 RSAA and 2.68 ERA/8 RSAA the past 2 years, Lincoln's off to a 2.58 ERA/9 RSAA start in his first 33 games. He has a 5.32 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.58, and -10 RSAA in 90 games.

8) The Rockies activated P Kent Mercker from the DL.

After a 6.52 ERA/-8 RSAA in 2000 and a missed season in 2001, Mercker's off to a 4.12 ERA/2 RSAA start in his first 32 games. He has a 4.31 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.23, and 4 RSAA in 399 games.

9) The Indians activated OF Todd Dunwoody from the DL and sent him to the minors.

10) The Whitesox called up 3B Joe Crede and C Josh Paul

Crede, 24, came into the year with a .801 OPS (.353 OBA, .448 SLG) in 6 minor league seasons, including a .813 OPS (.349 OBA, .464 SLG) in AAA in 2001. He's off to a .930 OPS (.359 OBA, .571 SLG) start in AAA. He as given a B+ grade by the MLSN, which listed him as a honorable mention for their top 50 prospect list.

11) Mariners utilityman Desi Relaford has a strained ribcage muscle and could miss at least a week.

Relaford's 12 RCAA with the 2001 Mets was the first positive figure of his career. He's off to a .305 SLG, .325 OBA, .630 OPS, -6 RCAA start in his first 73 games and has a .670 career OPS, compared to his league average of .778, and -68 RCAA in 558 games.

12) The Phillies sent P Hector Mercado to the minors.

After 4.50 ERA/1 RSAA and 4.08 ERA/1 RSAA in his first 2 major league seasons, Mercado's off to a 6.75 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 21 games.

13) From Barry Bonds, on the possibility of him moving to 1B, until his hamstring injury is completely healed--"I'll never play first base. That ball comes too fast for me. I can't catch it, and I never wear a cup. I'd keep grabbing my crotch."

From Bonds, a little while later--"I'll play wherever. I'll work at it. If it's something that's in the works, somebody needs to tell me in advance so I can work at it. I don't want to go in there with a blind hand. Well, if it's something they'd like to discuss with me we can discuss it and do it now. It hasn't been a topic of conversation."

Bonds could be ready to return tomorrow or Friday.

14) The Royals don't expect Mike Sweeney to be able to return to the lineup for 3-4 weeks.

15) The Rangers signed P C.J. Nitkowski to a minor league contract.

16) The trading "deadline" is 4 PM today. But, deals can still be made afterwards, after players clear waivers.

Did I miss something about "7" ??? I could have swore Lincoln still pitches for Pittsburgh, although sending down a pitcher with an ERA of 2.68 sounds like something Kansas City would do...

Are you sure it was the Royals who called up Brian Meadows?? I never heard of Mike Lincoln or Joe Beimel.

I am afraid that CubFan was right in his concern that Sweeney's injury sounded a lot like I-Rod's. He has been out 18 days now and no return in sight or even a rehab assignment target date.

I think it's safe to say that Johnson's 2001 was filled with highs and lows...

Score it E-1 on Sinnis, Meadows apparently is a Pirate.
Why they want to call up Brian Meadows, I don't have a clue.
BTW...I even know who Mike Lincoln and Joe Beimel are...
