I remember seeing him play in the minors.

I also have nothing to say about him.

Oh, you should have heard the Cub fans lament and moan when he was out of the lineup last year:

"Oh, we need him back. You gotta have Ricky at short."

Enough to make a man chew his own foot off....

I remember when Gutierrez was supposed to move Ripken back to third. Then again I remember the same thing being said about Juan Bell and Manny Alexander.

I think that was Jackie Gutierrez, not Ricky. Ricky came up with San Diego.

Oh YTown, why must we be tormented with the scourge of Gutierrez???? Can Shapiro have a do-over?

The awesome POWER!
The graceful agility he brings to the pivot of a 6-4-3!
The sheer awe-inspiring....

oh forget it.

I found out my original statement about hearing about Rickey moving Cal back to 3rd was correct. Rickey was traded from the Orioles to the Padres in 1992, without ever having reached Baltimore. I watched a lot of Rochester Red Wings games, the O's AAA team, and heard how he would replace Cal at those games.

Flashes of good play, followed by consistently average to below-average performances. He's a barely serviceable player, and certainly not someone to get excited about.

Ricky G. is the very worst hitter in the majors this year. Dead last. Any league, any team, any position. Period. Look it up.

The only full-timers with lower OPS's than Ricky are Neifi Perez, Rey Ordonez and Cesar Itzuris, and they all have more than twice as many RBI and more runs scored than Ricky.

Ricky has 10 RBI in 230 AB. Even Greg Vaughn towers over him.

Ricky has more GiDP than RBI. Think about that. He has made more outs with less production than any hitter in the bigs this year.

He has only scored 18 runs. He has no stolen base attempts and no power. Ricky is the only major leaguer with 200+ AB's who has failed to either score or drive in 20 runs. His OPS and SLG are both under .290.

You don't build or rebuild with 30-something never-wases when you have 20-something defensive wizzes who can hit a little, like John MacDonald. Not only that but Johnny Mac was actually hitting some while Ricky was on the DL, plus being a fine defensive player.

So, as soon as Ricky's off the DL, what does Cholly do? All-Star coach Cholly puts him back in the lineup and lets Mac ride the bench.

Is Julio Franco available?
