Default Is Albert Belle a HOFer?

Sorry if this has been brought up here...I'm pretty new, but all this talk about Frank Thomas, Raffy Palmeiro etc. makes me interested to what you all think of Belle.

To me, he is a no-brainer. Absolutely scary at the plate, and if ANY of these other guys expect to get in, Belle better get in first.

Of course the writers aren't big fans and all so who knows, but for my dollar, Albert Belle was the best of the bunch

I'd say on the field, yes he was. But the swine who vote for the HOF probably will make him sweat.

Belle's about 3000 PA and a good rep short of making it.

But, he probably doesn't care about it anyway.

I don't think the PA should enter into it at all. 10 years is the requirement. I'd rather have one burn out that fade away. Hey, hey, my, my.

He was the one guy in the AL those years that you didn't want to see come up to the plate.

He was outstanding.

It's too bad he was such a clown......but that aside, he could play on my team anyday...

I hate this type of argument but I will make it anyway. If Ralph Kiner is in then Belle should be. I see what Steve is saying about needed some more plate time- but what would it take? 3000 more PA but at what level? I think he has done enough in the 10 years to merit induction. If he had 2-3 years in the beginning and 1-2 at the end where he slightly below LAVG would that look better??

Here's my opinion: If writers vote Jim Rice in, Albert Belle should follow.
Rice wasn't a "saint", obviously, but he slugged like the dickens. Should Jim Rice finally get the respect he deserves, *taunting voice* JOEY! *normal* needs to get respect. And if the writers don't, then they're the idiots.

I still have problems with Rice. Namely, 6-4-3.

Smed,

I have never thought about it, but since RBI's and Runs scored are a function of the team you play on shouldn't GDIP?? Again I have not thought about it--what do you think?

GIDPs are 90% the batters issue. They deserve to be penalized more for it. A batter is creating TWO outs, instead of one.

I hate being the Grinch of January, but does anyone else think some writers may not give him top honors in part because he wasn't exactly the kindest and most gentle person they've ever met? I'm wondering if some reporters would ever consider this like payback time in the end.

True, but that also includes years where he hit 48/49/50 HR's had years.....6 years over 35 HRs

He had a 148 and a 152 RBI season

He should have been MVP in 95 but was screwed.

I know I never went to the bathroom when he was coming up.....he was so dangerous...

Of course they will.
