I watched a couple of innings, before McCarver's inane nagging drove me upstairs....and I couldn't turn up the stereo lest I wake the baby.

The pregame was touching. Did that one up nice. Brewer fans should be proud.
They captured the child like wonderment baseball has on people! Well done!

I missed that. The "Soup Nazi" episode was on at 7:00 here in Indiana...and I knew the pregame would be interminable.

It's been a good game through the first 7 innings.
I enjoyed the pregame, although I thought it was a little overdone towards the end. I don't think having the kids run all around with the ribbons was really necessary. I always find simplicity and honesty more touching than what I conceive to be lame attempts at evoking emotional response. |

Sweet ending to an All-Star Game.
Nice job with the commercial by Fox so we cannot at least hear from Selig. I know (and agree) the game had to end. In the current format, this game is made to go 9 and only 9 innings. To be honest, I am surprised Torre (or Brenley) did not go two with THEIR closers. Rivera and Kim are quite able to go two innings in a game like this. More players are not the answer, its just use of pitchers. To save pitchers for extra innings you have to take the chance they might not pitch in the game, and I'm sure no matter how many of these you have been to, you want to play. Although I could give two ^%^$ about the All-Star Game, if any game should have a DH, this is it. If any game should have players be able to substitute, this is it. If any game should have a veteran pitcher who has been in all-star games past told he is not pitching until possible extra's, this is it. Oh well, not the end of the world, just unfortunate. |

Did any one else watch the press conference on ESPN? Selig just seemed annoyed during the whole thing.
The result of the game was unfortunate, but what else could they have done? After this you can be sure the rosters will expand to add a few more pitchers. |

Selig is a third-rate guy in a job where you need a first-rate guy. It's really pretty sad and pathetic. The guy's been put in a position to fail, but he doesn't care...no shame.

Note my suggestion in other threads - expand the damn roster to 35 or 40 players and it would be highly unlikely that this situation could arise
THIS WAS NOT BUD's FAULT so quit picking on him (For this one)

How could any wrong that he did compare with that?" - John Sears |

I think I picked a good all-star game to boycott.
![]() BTW, that SOB better not decide that there is no winner to another part of the season where the word "Classic" is generally at the end when it is referred to. And it's only Selig's fault because Milwaukee JUST HAPPENED to be where this shoddy managing took place. It's his fault and he's probably sorry for giving the city such a lousy result. Brenly and Torre are still the responsible parties for this farce. To paraphrase a famous saying: "There's no tying in baseball." |

A fitting note to what is shaping up to be the worst season in MLB history, at least since 1919.
Does anyone even care about the outcome of the All-Star Game anymore? I remember I used to like seeing all the stars, but I definitely rooted for the NL, and it seemed the players cared more about it, too. Ever since the Moises Alou game, I haven't really cared at all. |

I agree with PW ... this is not Bud's fault. His handling of it is COMPLETELY his fault. McCarver made a great point that why was it announced when the NL still had at bats where they could win it and render it moot? Why have Bud sitting there looking like he's sucking lemons? The fact is, baseball has NO CLUE how to market itself. Occasionally, it is presented with opportunities where it almost gets it right ... the pregame tonight was perfect .. but its almost as if Bud says "How can I screw this up?" The contraction announcement timing, his testimony/perjury in Congress, and now this ... sigh.
