One day in an exhibition game the manager ask Joe Torre if he could put on the mask and sit behind the plate for a few innings. The third batter up was Joe Morgan. Joe popped a fly ball toward the dugout. Torre hopped up and went after it. The ball was within reach but as Torre approached the railing he gingerly stepped up on the foundation and made a lame attempt at trying to catch the ball. It was such a lame attempt the manager immediately pulled him from the game. The fans called him chicken! When ask why he did not make the catch, he said he wasn't sure where he was exactly and did not want to risk injury. So from then on all of the Cardinals came to know Joe as "Chicken Catcher Torre" He is the rave of cooks world wide!
