Since the other thread turned into a thread for film cognescenti to explain "Why I Think Gladiator Sucks In 3,000 Words or More"
Does anyone know how I can improve the performance of my computer's DVD player? I'm running a Compaq 6010S 1.4 GHZ.... |

I think someone already suggested uping the RAM. You may want to also make more virtual memory available, but if you are using Win 98 or ME this can be slightly tricky. Also be sure not be running alot of background programs (like email or instant messaging) while you using the DVD. You may want to see if you have latest version of the software that you use to play your DVD's. If you want more specific advice, please post the amount of RAM you have, OS you are using, and software that you play the DVD's with.

I can give a tip to increase virtual memory. This works on XP Professional. I do not have XP Home, so it may not be available if you are using this version of the OS.
1) Right click on My Compter. Select Properties. 2) Bring up the Advanced tab and push the button marked Settings under Performance. 3)On the dialog that comes up select the Advanced tab. 4) At the bottom is Virtual Memory. Press the change button. 5) This is the setting you need to change. I've got mine changed, and I can't remember the default. I've got mine set for 2-768 megs. You may want up amount on this setting. You will have to reboot after you do this. Moose may be right for checking your video card. If you're using the video card that came with compter, it may be a junky one. Good video cards are fairly cheap these days. I recommend anything with any type of Nvidia Geforce chip. Preferably the Geforce 3 or 4 with as much RAM as you can afford. Do not be afriad to shop around the web for components. You can get a better deal on the web than you can in the stores. Mysimon.com is a good site for comparison shopping. If you have any questions about video cards, or anything I've posted here feel free to email me.
