Default Mid-Season Malaise

Is it just me, or do others get the blahs about baseball about this time of year. For me it's generally mid-June through about the end of July (with AS game/trade deadline bumps). Then I can get fired up about pennant/wildcard races. Anyone else want to chime in with a timeframe, if any? I don't think this is inter-league related either, for those who may think so. Just the result of a long season, compounded this year by off the field worries. Though - I must say the Indians-Expos trade was somewhat energizing.

There really are days when I think, who cares about the scores and stats, they'll all work out in the end anyway.

Shame on me.

Nah, I feel the same way. For half of us, our teams are out of contention, but the pennant races haven't really started up yet. Things are a little slow, but that doesn't bother me. I could watch a TB v. KC game and still enjoy it. These are the days to relish the game for what it is - a PASTIME. I'm happy I'm one of the few who appreciate the game in that way. happyme!

This does seem to be the time of the season where less stuff happens. For me the blahs last until after the ASB. Once the trade deadline rumors start to heat up it gets interesting. Maybe another interesting trade like the Colon one will get us all going again.

I still enjoy watching the games. I'm planning my day around watching tonight's Giants-A's matchup.

Until the trading season really starts, it gets kind of quiet. Teams that are in it are excited, but the mediocre to bad teams just meander right now.

For me, the month of May is the down time. Just about that time, the surprises have sunk in (and some begin to fade too). By June, I'm usually excited again.

By the way, gosfgiants, I live in SF and am a huge Oakland fan--the sox is a tip of the cap to past years. The next three days will be heaven (I hope). Go A's!

The strike is only six or so weeks away so you had better get in the spirit quick or there will be nothing to get into the spirit for.

I find that I spend a little less time watching games, and more time participating in summer sports. I'll still watch Baseball Tonight, but missing a few games isnt' going to hurt. I also find during these slow times that I turn to reading a lot of baseball history, almost as though it's filling the void that I feel from the dullest part of the season.

Hey, can someone catch me up on what this thread's about? Haven't been paying as much attention lately...I usually get a short case of the blahs for baseball around this time of year.

Right about now my enthusiasm wanes as the Angels sink slowly into the sunset. This year though the west is a real race and every game counts. Tonight it's the Dodgers at Anaheim. Appier needs to keep it down or Green's going to have a field day.

Do you speak of a type of malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament?

I definitely get the blahs about this time of year unless the Tigers are in a pennant race. That hasn't happened in 10+ years so I don't remember what it is like.

Normally this time of year is kind of boring while I'm waiting for management to make some bad trades. Right now I'm actually excited because the Orioles are fighting for .500. I know they have no real playoff hopes, but I never expected this team to even be mediocre so this is fun for me.

This thought is really keeping me in check this year.
Normally I would be looking forward to the AS game/break, but now it seems like the calm before the storm...
