Default '68 & '69 Sox at County Stadium

I was looking through some Brewer game logs and County Stadium park factors and noticed that the White Sox used County Stadium for 9 games in 1968 and 11 games in 1969. Does anyone know why the White Sox were playing "home" games at County stadium those two seasons?

Thanks,

JV

It might be that they had to play holiday or weekend games there?
The Indians did that in the 30s, didn't they?

Jack -

MLB knew they had a bad situation with the Braves leaving Milwaukee (noise made by some used car dealer named Selig, I think) and the White Sox weren't drawing anything at Comiskey, and had a bad ownership situation, so they tried some games at County Stadium to see if it would work to move the White Sox to Milwaukee.

The demise of the Pilots and subsequent move of that team to Milwaukee ended that.

That was an example of the ownership woes the sox have always been through. they had some lousy owner who was trying to increase attendance, so they played one game against each AL team up in Milwaukee. There was even talk that they would move there before the brewers came in.

I think that they may have done it just to try to get a larger fan base--as they played games on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays (no real pattern).

TreAnt - There was semi-serious talk about the Sox moving up there...

I didn't know that you guys had posted on it already--I had looked it at and just left it up there until I looked when they played there.
I was just trying to make a guess that made some sense, since I wasn't around in 68 and 69...

Welcome to the forum Jack!

I think it had something to do with the Braves moving to Atlanta - - - Chisox trying to fill a baseball need and take advantage of the market.

What the hay is going on here? I thought I was losing my mind for a second there. This thread has already been done.
