I was reading the NL notes over at USA Today and came across this item:
Quote:
Is this one of those "unwritten rules"? Does it matter if the win is blowing in or out at Wrigley? Is Baylor just blowing hot air? Seems to me that you should be trying to get the other team out, no matter what the situation is. |

Three runs? Don Baylor, hell-low! This is the long ball era - - what's three runs? Nada.

Geno could sue you for that statement. At least Fred Sanford played for Casey Stengel and has a ring. |

I think you guys are being a little harsh. There are plenty of things to bash Don Baylor on -- No. 1 would be the time he wanted to trade Sammy Sosa because he wouldn't swab the decks or something.
But the guy's having a bad season and just lost one of his key players, he's gonna be upset. And getting under people's skin, especially the opposition -- "Hey man, that's bush-league" -- is part of the natural job of a manager. Anyone ever actually bother to keep account of the things Phil Jackson says during a playoff series? Good lord. |

I think Jackson should just shut his damn trap, too...but Jackson actually has had success.

Three runs ain't much these days. A pickoff play is a legit attempt to win a game.

Lord, don't start me on Phil Jackson. A statue of Red Auerbach in Quincy Market could outcoach the zen-master.

Sounds like a frustation quote to me. Even he has to know how silly it sounds.

Can't tell, but it sounds to me like Mr. Alou hurt his finger diving back into the bag HEAD FIRST. Maybe that's something that Col. Baylor should talk about at the next platoon meeting.

3 runs? Pick-off bush league? Get outta here!!! F'r cryin' out loud, if they'd been playing at Coors Lite, 8 runs wouldn't be safe.
Also, this is the Texas staff we're talking about. 8 runs may not be safe for these guys at sea-level. Teaching guys how to do the "head-first" thing should be on everyone's list next spring. |

I would suggest Baylor was being a bit of a smartass when he made that statement, if he in fact said it or was even commenting on the pik attempt.
ps: I am not a fan of Baylor as a mgr.
