Just wondering, will the D-Rays finally call up Crawford now that the oft-maligned Greg Vaughn is banged up?

Just 20, and coming off a year in AA where he had a .675 OPS, TB would be best to leave him alone in the minors, IMHO.
BTW, welcome to the forum!

Let him develop in the minors. There's no reason to throw him into that Tampa mess just yet. If he were 23, I'd say call him up, but there's lots of time.

Two other considerations here: arbitration eligibility and the possible strike.
Crawford will be up in September, God willing they are still playing ball then. |

I agree sweaver, no need to rush him with issues like service time and arbitration looming. Give the kid a full season of AAA, then bring him up in September. Then hand him the job next spring and leave him in it for the whole year, no matter how much he struggles. In 2 years, he's gonna be a player.

All very logical conclusions, unfortunately I am in the logic-altering situation of having to watch my Sox face the Rays on 13 more spine tingling occasions, including one that I will be (gasp) attending in person. There are only so many conversations that can begin with "That Joe Kennedy looks like he could turn into something." Therefore I renew my call to TB management for the immediate promotion of Mr. Crawford, if for only selfish purposes.

I can give you all sorts of things to yell at Rupe ... maybe Tyner will be back up and I can tell you about him getting dumped in the middle of a ballgame. Sadly, there are no good Fossum stories.
BTW, Welcome!

I, too, have selfish purposes as the AAA Durham Bulls are a mere hour's drive away from my home, and I love to watch the hustle that is Carl Crawford. And as Tampa Bay, FL is much more than a one hour's drive from my home, I implore Devil Ray management to leave him be.

Geez...I couldn't yell anything AT Rupe or Tyner or any of them, that'd be like heckling a little league right fielder.

If Crawford is better than anyone on their current roster, he should be called up now.
If Crawford is a Grade-A prospect, he's probably ready for the majors right now. A team like the Rays may not be the best for a rookie, but that's who he plays for. Crawford should only be in the minors if there is clear proof that he NEEDS further minor league instruction. Most potential superstars are ready to at least play in the major leagues at Crawford's age. If Crawford is THAT kind of prospect, each day in the minors is a waste. Is he THAT kind of prospect? Somebody tell me, please! |

From what I've gathered at Bulls games, Crawford could "technically" use some more seasoning at AAA, but inevitably will be called up soon because Tampa Bay is soooooo bad. If he was in any other organization, he would spend the year at AAA and fight for a job at spring training.
