if by "sport" you mean "sitting around predicting standings," then yes, I am a "sport"sman

ah, but does what your competitors do directly affect your result or are you just playing against (with?) yourself?

An individual's score is based solely on their own picks and nobody else's. But, your ranking in the standings is affected by what others do.

Here's an example to explain how that affects things. Let's say that you picked Team to finish in 1st place and they are currently in 3rd. Let's also say that Competitor picked Team to finish 2nd.

With Team in 3rd place, you get 3 points for them. Competitor gets 4 points for them.

If Team moves up to 2nd place, you get an extra point, giving you 4 for them. But, since Competitor would have correctly predicted their exact place, Competitor would then get 8 points. So, your 1 point addition is negated in the standings by a 4 point gain by a competitor.

If you correctly predict a team's exact spot in the standings, that can never work to your disadvantage. The worst case scenario is a competitor gets the same person score (8 points) for that team as you do. But, there can be times when it's better than to be wrong by an extra spot and thus 1 less point than it would be for a competitor to gain more than you would.
