1) Pirates LF Brian Giles says he has no knowledge of a rumored trade that would send him back to the Indians. Giles has a limited no trade clause that allows him to veto a trade to anyone other than the Padres, Dodgers, Giants, Rockies, Braves and Diamondbacks.

According to Giles, "They're not one of the six teams on my list, so I don't know why anybody would think I was going there. That's the good thing about the clause, I can control where I go. But I'm not looking to go anywhere."

After 59 RCAA/1.032 OPS, 67 RCAA/1.026 OPS and 58 RCAA/.994 OPS seasons the past 3 years, Giles is off to an excellent .626 SLG, .439 OBA, 1.065 OPS, 34 RCAA start in his first 65 games. He has a .977 career OPS, compared to his league average of .783, and 262 RCAA in 821 games.

2) Orioles P Sidney Ponson had to leave yesterday's game, after being hit on the wrist by a ground ball. X-rays showed a bruise and he's day to day.

After 4.82 ERA/-4 RSAA and 4.94 ERA/-12 RSAA seasons the past 2 years, Ponson's off to a 4.07 ERA/6 RSAA start in his first 15 starts. He has a 4.80 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.38, and -21 RSAA in 133 games.

3) Dodgers 3B Adrian Beltre was being given a day off yesterday, before being used as a defensive replacement. Beltre's in a 2 for 24 slump, and MGR Jim Tracy says he should return to the lineup today.

After 12 RCAA/.835 OPS and -5 RCAA/.720 OPS seasons the past 2 years, Beltre's off to a .372 SLG, .291 OBA, .663 OPS, -10 RCAA start in his first 70 games. He has a .752 career OPS, compared to his league average of .783, and -8 RCAA in 563 games.

4) The Braves traded OF George Lombard to the Tigers for minor league P Kris Keller. The Tigers designated 1B-OF Ryan Jackson for assignment, to open up spots on the 25 and 40 man rosters for Lombard.

Lombard is out of options and the Braves had to either put him on the 25 man roster or expose him to waivers when his minor league rehab assignment ended. The 26 year old has had injury problems the past 2 years and came into the year with a .764 OPS (.348 OBA, .418 SLG) in 8 minor league seasons and has a .412 OPS/-5 RCAA in 40 games (55 PA) in the majors, spread out since 1998.

Keller, 24, came into the year with a 3.75 ERA in 6 minor league seasons and has a 2.08 ERA in AAA this year.

5) The Angels called up P Brendan Donnelly.

Donnelly, a 30 year old rookie, had a 4.91 ERA/0 RSAA in 4 major league games earlier in the season.

6) The Indians called up P Heath Murray, placed P David Riske on the 15 day DL and moved P Jaret Wright from the 15 to the 60 day DL.

Riske has a strained lower back muscle.

Murray had a 6.54 ERA/-15 RSAA in 40 games with the Tigers last year and had a 6.32 ERA and -33 RSAA in 79 games in a career that has also included the 1997 & 1999 Padres.

7) Braves 2B Marcus Giles's newborn daughter died. She had been born prematurely, at just 26 weeks, and weighed 1 pound when she was born on June 3.

Giles is on the DL and his minor league rehab assignment was postponed earlier in the month so he could be with his family.

8) Rangers 3B Herbert Perry had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained hamstring, and is day to day.

After -2 RCAA/.839 OPS and -8 RCAA/.736 OPS seasons the past 2 years, Perry's off to a .512 SLG, .349 OBA, .861 OPS, 4 RCAA start in his first 49 games. He has a .786 career OPS, compared to his league average of .777, and -15 RCAA in 386 games.

9) Rangers RF Juan Gonzalez missed yesterday's game, due to a sore right thumb, and is day to day.

Gonzalez is off to a .463 SLG, .356 OBA, .819 OPS, 2 RCAA start in his first 35 games and has a .911 career OPS, compared to his league average of .762, and 278 RCAA in 1538 games.

10) The Expos sent P Carl Pavano to the minors.

11) The Cubs traded minor league P Mark Watson to the Mariners for future considerations.

12) The Orioles signed INF Luis Lopez to a minor league contract.

13) Benito Santiago reached 1500 NL hits.

Santiago has a total of 1592 hits, while -128 out of his -144 career RCAA have come in the NL.

After -23, -15 and -23 RCAA seasons the past 3 years, Santiago's off to a good start, with a .484 SLG, .328 OBA, .811 OPS, 4 RCAA in 55 games. It would be the first time since 1996 that he's had a positive RCAA.
