Default football

Football annuals are already on the newstands. Way too early I think since a lot can happen between now, and say late July (which would be a better time to put them out).

But since they are out, might as well start soliciting opinions.

Who do you like in your team's division (remember there are 8 divisions now)? How about in the AFC? NFC? Super Bowl?

If you follow college football, who do you like in your favorite conference? Who do you think has the best shot at the national title?

For part 1, I think the Bears can repeat in the North (or is that win the first ever North division title?). I think the Bears and the 49ers are probably the best in the NFC, but St Louis is still the team you need to beat. In the AFC, I really don't know who's the best. No one in that conference seems especially good at this point. Super Bowl? Dunno yet. I'll post this one in a few weeks.

For college football, I think the Illini will be better than most are predicting. They have been basically every year for the past 3 or 4 years. But, losing Kittner is still big, so I'll go with Mi..Mi...Mi...can't say it. National Title? Go with Miami in a repeat.

Go Seahawks!!

new , uniform, stadium, conference, and FINALLY a starting QB I can believe in!!!!!!!

Should be a fun year to watch the nfc west...'tween the 'hawks, niners, and rams it is gonna be a doozy of big games

Too early to call anything...still some names to be signed...

In college I like the Hokies (but they will do bad), and Georgia Southern in 1-AA (the pride of 1-AA football!!), but without "AP" I don't expect too much out of them.

Rajah~~~ Your bears drafted the biggest unknown stud of all time...Adrian Peterson (NCAA's alltime 1-AA leading rusher, and all division leader with 36 straight 100 yard games). Keep an eye on him.

Browns have as good a shot as any team. They drafted well and the O-Line will develop. I expect them to make the playoffs.

Bears drafted Jerry Azumah a few years ago, he is or was division 2 (I think)'s all time leading rusher or something. They also once drafted this guy from a division 1AA school called jackson state, you may have heard of him. Walter Payton.

I wonder how Illinois State is this year. They made a pretty good run at the Div 1-AA title a few years ago, but were bested by the damned penguins of Youngstown state.

In the NFC, I still think the Rams are the team to beat. They have a decent defense, and that offense should be great again this season. Only a serious choke job kept them from winning the Super Bowl.

In the AFC, I doubt the Patriots (flukiest SB winner ever) will repeat. The disparity in strength between the conferences is still pretty big. The AFC has a lot of okay teams and no great ones, so the playoff hunt could be interesting. I guess if I had to pick someone, I'd go with the Steelers.

The best team in the AFC are the Steelers. After years of losing guys to free agency they were finally able to re-sign most of they're guys. Most of the teams in their division are week. Baltimore got slaughtered by the cap, and no one else has the guys to move in on Pittsburgh. Watch out for Miami. Ricky Williams may give them the running game they've been looking for 20 years.

The team to beat in the NFC is the Rams. That being said, there are some teams that can knock them off. They will get some stiff competition in their own division from the Niners. The Niners are a young team with a defense that is showing signs of playing to the level of the offense. I think that Tampa Bay will be a tough team. They have done the most of any team in the off season to improve themselves. They have one of the best coaches of the past several years, made key acquisitions at TE, WR, and OL. The could win the whole shooting if everything falls into place. The last team that may do something is the Eagles. Tough defense with Donovan McNabb in a very weak division.

The Lions are worse than the Tigers!

In the NFC I like Eagles, Green Bay, TB, and the Rams.
In the AFC I like the Pats, Steelers, Colts, and Raiders

Colts and Rams in Super Bowl

You NFL dweebs are out of touch. Everyone knows that the real football is played in college. Go Cards. Go Ducks. Go anyone-who-plays-Notre-Dame.

Unless the Colts signed 11 new defensive starters during the offseason, you guys are dreaming!

Oh ye of little faith - Dungy has a better scheme for the players they have - and did you notice the draft. Almost all D.

I really like Dungy, but I don't know how much he can turn that defense around in his first year. I'm interested to see how Freeney does on the pass rush at the pro level. Dungy knows how to work with that type of player, and I don't think you could ask for a better coach to play for coming out of college.

The AFC is wide open, but I think the Steelers have the best shot. As for the AFC East, I have no idea what will happen.

I'll be stuck going to Bengals games, watching Gus Frerotte or Jon Kitna lead an impotent offense. Corey Dillon would have had a couple of rushing titles by now, if not for the fact the Bengals are always so behind in the second half that they have to pass, pass, pass. They could have had Bledsoe for cheap - yet another sign of Mike Brown's futility as a GM.

You Indy guys are missing the biggest advantage you have this season - no games against Bill Belichick defenses. That means that Peyton Manning might make it through an entire season without getting his wits scrambled trying to decipher the undecipherable Beli-ball D's.

The Steelers on paper are better, but on the field still have Kordell "Big Game" Stewart - not good.

The Raiders are collecting social security checks and breaking in a rookie head coach.

It's really too bad that the Ravens can't play Billick's ego in Sam Adams starting spot on th D-line.

The Browns are gonna be good. Scary good if Willie Green can avoid the doghouse (figuratively, not literally).

The Chargers, Broncos, Bills and Dolphins are the breakout team candidates.

But the Patriots still have the best coach and best defense...and will be able to stop anyone they play.

The NFC? I don't care as long the Cowboys lose more than they win and Brett Favre gets to take a steel chair to Terry Glenn before the end of the season.
