Cool Prince Of A Question

http://boysofbaseball.com/photos/d_2.jpg

The kid holding his nuts in this picture is Prince Fielder, Big Daddy's kid. This was two years ago. He's now much bigger (just saw his pix in BBA) - - over 250 lbs and a freshman in college. The say the kid, a LH hitter, has 500 ft. HR power - - - now.

Do you draft this kid in two years - or, does he have to lose weight for you to be interested?

Boys of Baseball??? Net, you should really lay off the kiddy porn, you know....

But seriously, what's the track record for (the not many) 250-lb college freshmen that get drafted?

250 lbs would be no biggie if he was 6'5". I think he's closer to 6' - which, is an issue.

If I am an AL team and I have a DH spot open, sure I draft him.

But, someone being THAT much overweight tells me something about their work ethic.

There's something just wrong about drafting a 21 year old DH.

Is this the "evolution" of baseball?

I think I'd pass if I could get around him.

He is a big boy to say the least but I don't think he's necessarily fat. And remember until Cecil got older he was a good athlete. Could dunk a basketball and wasn't a bad defensive first baseman.

Red face Weight

Cecli was not nearly the size he was later on when he had his monster seasons...Mo Vaughn was much slimmer coming out of seton Hall...250[and that appears, ahem, generous] on a 6 foot frame? I think 500 foot home runs are very much like 98 MPH fastballs...everyone talks about them, very few have ver REALLy seen them...by the way, babe ruth was not nearly his eventual size when HE had his greatest seasons...so no, i dont take a chance on a softball beer league player...

I wish I could post the picture I saw of him in the recent BBA - - like Dmitri Young, if he had been floating dead in the ocean for a week. Mr. Stay Puff At The Bat.

They could call this kid "Big Puff Daddy"

Would I draft him? Possibly, if I'm an AL general manager

In the first round? No way.

Does he have a future? It depends on what kind of a hitter he is. If he is a patient hitter, he probably has a shot; he might be a Grade C prospect. If he's a hacker, he's no prospect.

Very little info is given about young Prince, but I would guess he woud be a "Young player with Old player skills". He'll hit for power, and (hopefully) take a walk. He'll stink on defense, even at 1B.

The best case scenario is for an AL team to draft him and make him a career DH. I see that as being a wise thing; however, AL teams appear reluctant to do that. It would probably be best for young Prince if this happens, though.

Hahahahahaha!

Now that's funny!

I'd draft him for my softball team, but not for MLB.

Quoted from Stark's Rumblings and Grumblings 5/2/02. Holy Mo Vaughn Batman!

Two sons of big leaguers who could go in the first round: Prince (Son of Cecil) Fielder and John Mayberry Jr.

Fielder, a first baseman, has been described as having "tremendous power, good swing." Not to mention a mammoth build. "He's at 260 now," says one scouting director. "And he lost 60 pounds."
