Default "view new posts"

Why sometimes when I hit the "view new posts" button, I'll get a string of like 25 threads and other times I'll get only 6 or 7. Just curious.

um, are the posts always new? sometimes not that many people post, and others there are many new posts.

or do you think when you only get 6 or 7 that you might be missing some new ones?

i think the software reads the last time you were logged on, and then grabs every post that was submitted after that time

I agree. Because if you stay logged on but go refresh the Search you get the same ones as before, plus any newer ones on top. It'd be nice to have it just get ones since the last search instead of the last n, but... Also, if you completely exit and come back in, you'll get the same list so there must be some refresh cycle that can be beat if you are too quick on the trigger.

I believe it does keep track of when you last logged in. I change computers a lot and it seems to update the newest posts no matter what computer I n to.

(sidebar) What gets me is this:

"All times are GMT -5 hours. The time now is XX:XX." ... where the time shown is EDT - 5 hours, not GMT - 5 hours. I hate having to adjust the times everytime I look at a post to see when it was really made.

You can fix that. Go to the Edit Options page under "user cp". The button is on the top of each page. Under Date and Time options you can set the time zone correctly. The board time is set on Eastern time. If you are in the east set it to GMT. I've got mine set to GMT -3, since I am in the Pacific zone. Then you will get the proper times of the post.

Thanks. Thats a pretty obvious fix - don't I feel stupid. However, I dont understand why a kludge like this is needed; it's really a coverup rather than a fix. Sorry - just the anal left brainer in me coming out.

You got it:

1. What's your favorite color?

2. What's the airspeed velocity of a laden swallow?

3. Who was the only actor with a speaking line in Mel Brooks' Silent Movie?

Uhhh, never mind. We are way off topic here. We can just let this one die a normal death (unless you know the answers to my easy test, that is...)
