Default Kobe

Every time I see Kobe play he impresses me. He is the best clutch player in the game right now. I want to choke on that because I hate the Lakers, but give credit where credit is due. This guy makes clutch basket after clutch basket and can carry the team in the absence of Shaq. I think he will be the one that inherits Michael Jordan's crown.

that turned out to be a pretty good trade for the Lakers. Bodes well for Memphis, Jerry West is one of the best GMs out there.

I couldnt stand Kobe till last year. Hard to remember how young he is to have so much. He's still got some maturing to do but he's come a long way. ... Jeez, dont I sound like the pompous pontificating grampa here ...

We all lapse into old fogeyism....I let my subscription to SPIN lapse because I don't understand what the kids are into nowadays.

With Kobe its the same. He's also has a HUGE Jordan complex. It's like everything he does is emulated in a past Jordan act.

ooh, i strongly disagree. I think Kobe *loves* the comparisons in the sense that it's the highest praise, but I think even moreso that he wants to be the FIRST KOBE, not the NEXT JORDAN (caps emphasis, not shouting).

I get this from numerous interviews that I can't cite offhand, so take that for what it's worth.

I think the similarities are in their play, not Kobe's actions. Then again, I could be completely wrong

No. He's pattern his speaking around the way Jordan used to speak. And his going off the court and heroically returning is Jordanesque.

There are a few national radio guys who have noticed this...

and there's the obvious 'under-the-watchful-eye-of-Phil' argument as well.....

I don't care if Kobe's out there on the court doing mime in a kilt. He's getting it done. He's really grown as a man and a teammate.
I wasn't a fan of Kobe's at all until last year. The way he handled the Shaq/Kobe "feud" was impressive and showed alot of maturity.
My hat's off to him.
With Shaq hobbled he will take the Lakers to the promised land again.
3-peat....sounds good.

That's a really scary mental picture.

I'm not so sure about that. Let me say at the outset that i don't follow bball nearly as closely as baseball, so take the following FWIW.
Anyway, I really don't see his trying to be Jordan-like in his actions. Anything there might just be the residual of growing up as a fan obsessed w/ jordan like the rest of us.
Personally, I think it's about time to talk about taking over a game "like Jordan or Kobe," not "Kobe taking over the game like Jordan used to do"... ?

The Lakers had Rodman for a while. That was pretty close.
He was getting 15 rebounds a game with a thong under his shorts. And let's not forget the eyeliner.
Seriously though, Kobe's become an incredible professional basketball player .
Yet another Jerry West coup. Memphis will love West.

I don't know whether Kobe is trying to mimic Michael, or to present himself as Mike's heir. All I know is that he's an incredible player on both ends of the floor, and without him the Lakers would have lost to San Antonio.

Kobe has food poisoning, and he's going to try to play through the pain. Now, if you have a bad foot, you can limp onto the court to show your toughness. What do you do with food poisoning? Should he hold his stomach while he walks onto the court? Or what about wheeling out his I.V. unit, then tearing it out of his arm when they do the starting lineups?

Never drink the water in Sacramento. He's been in the league long enough to know that.
Oh man, that's bad news. He's gonna need a diaper out there.
It just means that the Lakers will take it five games instead of four.

Smed, if Kobe has a huge game w/ food poisoning, the Jordan-fever comparisons will be off the charts
