Cool 2001's Best Coaching Job

From Baseball America:

Quote:
Lemons to Lemonade
The team at tiny Southlands Christian High in Walnut, Calif., went 1-12 in 2000, and when practice opened for 2001, coach Wayne Lovett had exactly two players come out for the team. Rather than give up, Lovett turned the two players into recruiters, coaxing their classmates to come out. It wasn’t an easy task in a coed school with a total enrollment of 75, but 11 players were scraped together, only three of whom had ever played before. Lo and behold, the team went 7-6, and this season the 14-player team was 11-5 and headed for its sectional playoffs.

Gotta "Lovett"!
If you saw it in the movies, you wouldn't believe it.

Ah, but is the coach now going to pitch for the Devil Rays?
I love those kind of stories...this is what makes baseball great...you can't have a story like that with any other sport.

I appreciate these types of stories too, but why do you say you can't get them in other sports. I think they happen all the time in sport, both individual and team. That is what makes sport great.

First of all, I'll note that I'm not exactly blessed with great ka-nowledge with high school sports...I didn't exactly have fun high school years, but this is neither the time and place to go on about my sorry life.
I just kind of found of it difficult when I thought about it to think about it in other formats. It only seemed to make the most sense on the baseball diamond. Again, maybe you could do it with others, but then again, what do I know, I didn't even graduate high school. (See end of last paragraph.)
Best part about these kind of stories? No labor problems will ever arise from them. Simple as that.

Coach Lovett is to be highly commended for his work.
