6) Barry Bonds says he has a ganglion cyst in his wrist. UnderTheKnife has contacted the Indians Hand Center, which reports that it is neither a tumor nor cancerous.

His great stats so far this year--.851 SLG, .605 OBA, 1.456 OPS, 46 RCAA in 37 games.

1) The Expos traded 3B Chris Truby to the Tigers for OF-INF Jose Macias.

After starting his career with -17 RCAA in 126 games with the 2000-01 Astros, Truby's off to a .400 SLG, .297 OBA, .697 OPS, -3 RCAA start in his first 35 games.

After starting his career with -5 and -8 RCAA seasons in 2000-01, Macias is off to a .271 SLG, .291 OBA, .562 OPS, -9 RCAA start in his first 33 games.

2) Indians RF Matt Lawton has a separated right shoulder, but he thinks he can avoid the DL and just get sporadic rest.

After 22 and 14 RCAA seasons the past 2 years, Lawton is off to a .510 SLG, .366 OBA, .876 OPS, 3 RCAA start in his first 39 games. He's on pace to set career highs in SLG and OPS and has a .806 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 51 RCAA in 858 games.

3) Twins MGR Ron Gardenhire says 1B Doug Mientkiewicz's wrist injury will probably keep him out of their entire weekend series against the Yankees, but he won't have to go on the DL.

4) The Rangers signed C-OF-DH Todd Greene and designated C Hector Ortiz for assignment.

Greene was playing in AAA for the Dodgers, but exercised his contractual right to void the contract if he wasn't called by May 15. He's had a negative RCAA and an OBA under .300 5 times in his 6 year career and has a .688 career OPS, compared to his league average of .782, and -38 RCAA in 258 games.

Ortiz was off to a .500 SLG, .267 OBA, .767 OPS, -1 RCAA start in 7 games.

5) The BlueJays activated LF-DH Shannon Stewart from the DL.

After 22 and 20 RCAA seasons the past 2 years, Stewart's off to a .447 SLG, .351 OBA, .798 OPS, 0 RCAA start in his first 23 games. He has a .816 career OPS, compared to his league average of .778, and 62 RCAA in 666 games.

6) Rockies P Mike Hampton recorded his 1000th career SO.

Hampton's off to a 6.32 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 9 starts.

7) The Diamondbacks activated 1B Erubiel Durazo from the DL and sent INF Alex Cintron to the minors.

MGR Bob Brenly says Durazo will take over the starting 1B job and hit cleanup. Barring Brenly deciding Mark Grace's veteranness means he should regain the job, Durazo will forfeit his title of best player in baseball who doesn't have a starting job. It's a good thing to see players lose that distinction.

Durazo has a .905 career OPS, compared to his league average of .790, and 31 RCAA in 212 games, including a .909 OPS/10 RCAA season in 207 PA in 2001.

8) The Padres placed 1B Phil Nevin on the 15 day DL, retroactive to Sunday, sent INF Cesar Crespo to the minors, called up 1B Alex Pelaez and P Kevin Pickford and moved Ps Jose Nunez and Matt DeWitt from the 15 to the 60 day DL.

Nevin has a sprained left elbow. After 30 RCAA/.916 OPS and 51 RCAA/.976 OPS seasons in 2000-01, he's off to a .459 SLG, .361 OBA, .819 OPS, 7 RCAA start in his first 36 games.

After a -5 RCAA/.647 OPS season in 55 games as a rookie in 2001, Crespo's off to a .125 SLG, .211 OBA, .336 OPS, -1 RCAA start in his first 11 games.

Pelaez, 26, came into the year with a .754 career OPS (.347 OBA, .407 SLG) in 4 minor league seasons, including a .743 OPS (.332 OBA, .411 SLG) in AA in 2001.

Pickford, 27, has missed 2 of the past 4 years with injuries, including 2001, and was off to a 2.86 ERA start so far in AAA.

9) Padres 3B Sean Burroughs returned to the lineup, after missing 7 starts due to a sore shoulder.

The 21 year old rookie is off to a slow start, hitting .314 SLG, .280 OBA, .594 OPS, -4 RCAA start in 29 games. I'll be surprised if he continues to have numbers that bad throughout his career.

10) Padres CF Mark Kotsay, LF Ray Lankford and RF Ryan Klesko all missed yesterday's game. Kotsay due had an illness, Lankford has a sore left hand and Klesko has a tight hamstring.

Yes, they were able to field a team for yesterday's game.

11) Pirates MGR Lloyd McClendon says he hasn't ruled out replacing 1B Kevin Young with Rob Mackowiak.

After a -5 RCAA/.730 OPS season in 83 games as a 25 year old rookie in 2001, Mackowiak is off to a .422 SLG, .262 OBA, .683 OPS, -2 RCAA in his first 35 games.

Nevertheless, he could still be a better choice for the spot than Young. After a -17 RCAA/.744 OPS season in 2000, Young fell to -24 RCAA/.708 OPS in 2001 and is playing like he's determined to fall even more, with a .343 SLG, .308 OBA, .651 OPS, -6 RCAA start in his first 35 games.

12) Dodgers LF Brian Jordan has missed the past 3 games, due to a lower back strain, and will have a MRI today, to determine whether he needs to go on the DL.

13) Brewers LF Geoff Jenkins was given a routine day off yesterday.

After 26 RCAA/.935 OPS and 34 RCAA/.948 OPS seasons in 1999-2000, Jenkins fell to -1 RCAA/.808 OPS in 2001. He's off to a .395 SLG, .319 OBA, .714 OPS, -2 RCAA start in his first 40 games.

14) Brewers C Raul Casanova suffered a hyperextended elbow in yesterday's game and says he could miss up to a month. He'll have a MRI today.

Casanova's had a negative RCAA in each of his 5 previous years and is off to a .230 SLG, .273 OBA, .503 OPS, -8 RCAA start in his first 31 games. He has a .671 career OPS, compared to his league average of .778, and -47 RCAA in 330 games.

15) The Dodgers placed P Jesse Orosco on the 15 day DL and called up P Guillermo Mota.

Orosco has a strained oblique muscle. The 45 year old all time leader in games pitched is off to 3.12 ERA/1 RSAA start in his first 14 games this year.

After a 2.93 ERA/11 RSAA season as a rookie with the Expos in 1999, Mota fell to 6.00 ERA/-5 RSAA and 5.26 ERA/-3 RSAA the past 2 years and was traded to the Dodgers during the offseason.

1) The Rangers are expected to activate Juan Gonzalez from the DL today and place Frank Catalanotto on the DL.

Gonzalez is off to a slow start, hitting .292 SLG, .308 OBA, .599 OPS, -2 RCAA in just 7 games. The probable future Baseball Immortal has a .912 career OPS, compared to his league average of .762, and 274 RCAA in 1510 games.

2) Mariners MGR Lou Piniella says the team will make a decision next week on whether rookie Rafael Soriano should be moved into the rotation.

The highly touted rookie has thrown 5 shutout innings in his first 2 major league appearances.

3) Pirates SS Jack Wilson was given a day off yesterday and he may also be given a day off today.

His minor league track record was bad, his rookie season was awful (.550 OPS/-36 RCAA) and he's even worse this year--.236 SLG, .239 OBA, .475 OPS, -10 RCAA in his first 32 games.

4) The Whitesox signed OFs Damon Buford and Brooks Kieschnick to minor league contracts and acquired minor league OF Anthony Sanders from the Reds, for future considerations.

5) A's DH Mario Valdez cleared waivers and was assigned to AAA.

After starting the season on the DL, Valdez was already removed from the 40 man roster when he was designated for assignment on May 7.

6) Giants SS Rich Aurilia and RF Reggie Sanders were given routine days off yesterday.

Other than a 22 PA cup of coffee callup in 1995, Aurilia never had a positive RCAA until his 49 RCAA/.941 OPS season in 2001. He's off to a .443 SLG, .305 OBA, .747 OPS, 0 RCAA start in his first 30 games.

After a career worst -16 RCAA/.705 OPS season in 2000, Sanders bounced back with a 11 RCAA/.886 year in 2001 and is off to a .397 SLG, .311 OBA, .708 OPS, 1 RCAA start in his first 38 games. Sanders has a .830 career OPS, compared to his league average of .764, and 100 RCAA in 1205 games.

7) A's LF Jeremy Giambi was scratched from yesterday's lineup, after fouling a ball off his right foot on Wednesday, and is day to day.

After a 14 RCAA/.841 OPS season in 2001, Giambi's off to a very good .483 SLG, .407 OBA, .889 OPS, 11 RCAA start in his first 39 games.

8) Devil Rays CF Randy Winn was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to a tight right hamstring.

Winn had a negative RCAA in each of his first 4 seasons and is off to a .408 SLG, .316 OBA, .725 OPS, -3 RCAA start in his first 36 games. He has a .706 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and -43 RCAA in 403 games.

9) Marlins C Ramon Castro had to leave yesterday's game, due to soreness in his elbow and MGR Jeff Torborg says the injury is serious and Castro may have to go on the DL.

10) Royals LF Chuck Knoblauch had his 400th career SB.

After his 61 RCAA/.965 OPS season in 1996, Knoblauch's SLG, OBA, OPS and RCAA figures all declined 4 times in the past 5 years. After -5 RCAA/.751 OPS and -9 RCAA/.691 OPS seasons in 2000-01, Knoblauch's doing a good job declining again, with a .282 SLG, .271 OBA, .553 OPS, -8 RCAA start in his first 31 games.

11) The Cardinals signed OF Jon Nunnally to a minor league contract.

Anyone know if they still have Rob Ducey and Damon Mashore in AAA?
