Morris has damage already and is under the watchful eyes of he-who-cannot-be-named in St. Louis.

Go with Hudson.

You wouldn't happen to be in 24 fantasy leagues, now would you??

I have to go with Hudson. He's a year younger and hasn't had the injury problems that Morris has had. If Morris had not been hurt I probably would swing the vote to his side.

I'd vote for Hudson. I think Morris probably has better stuff, but there's that troubling injury history. Of course, any pitcher is an injury risk at any given time.

Although you do wonder if the heavy workload Hudson's shouldered at a young age might catch up to him.

I guess I'm being a contrarian but I'd prefer Morris because he's already been injured. I figure he'll be watched more closely whereas Hudson's workload to date would concern me just as it would for any young pitcher.

Either way they're both two fine pitchers.

Interesting point, Rich, but do you believe a previously-injured pitcher is less likely to get injured again than one who has had no health issues?

I agree with Rich.

I think Morris injury, surgery and the manner in which they brought him back to the majors renders him a slightly "safer" bet than Hudson.

The real test for Morris will be to see how he is performing in September of this year. I think Morris pitches in a slightly easier division as well, which pushes my Morris choice over the edge for me.

Hudson has to face the Mariners, Rangers and Angels quite often - not an easy task.

Yeah, I do, though I don't even play a doctor on TV. I figure:

1. A repaired arm or shoulder will be better, until it breaks down again, than one that hasn't been 'cleaned up' yet.

2. Someone who has been injured might be aware of the warning signs to let him know he's approaching trouble again so will cool it before he's struck down again/

3. Management might keep an eye on someone they know has already had the problem morre than someone who gets hurt "out of the blue."

I know it's not scientific. I ASSume that surgery to fix the problem will bring the elbow/shoulder back better than it would have been without it.

Default Morris' workload

I agree that Morris should know better how to be careful but in his last three starts he threw

125
126
119

or thereabouts pitches

plus a start earlier in the year up at 125ish

so even though I love him it adn it makes sense that they would watch him in reality it seems they are just pushing him to the max

indychamps-

good point. But do the Cards have a choice with their recent string of "bullpen days"?

Default True

Thats a very good point

but I still worry about a good pitcher getting run down
I hope it doesn't happen

Hudson. I think Morris may have the better talent, but I like Hudson's demeanor on the mound.

As for the injury question, I think I'd always go with the guy who's yet to be hurt.

I think I'd rather have the future of Hudson in front of me. Morris is a fine pitcher, but he's somewhat damaged goods
