As I Tiger fan with a biased opinion I do think that Trammell belongs in the HOF. If Ozzie is a no brainer than Trammell should have got more consideration than what he did.

I personally would have preferred Trammell to Ozzie.

I think Trammell's issue is that there was nothing flashy about him (which, to me is a good thing - but bad for public P.R.) and that fact that, once he truned 30, he always seemed to miss a good chunk of the season.

At least he'll still have another chance on the ballot - unlike Lou Whitaker, who got royally shafted by the BBWAA
I think Trammell suffers from something similar to Gossage - back in his day, his hitting was outstanding for a SS - now it's par for the course (just like in Goose's time, 30 saves was great, now anyone that pitches 60 innings or so on a decent team can get 30 saves).

You gotta believe that both Whitaker and Trammell will -- and should -- get in someday.
Whitaker will have a harder time because there's a pretty big cluster of potentially HOF-quality 2b on the outside looking in (Frank White, Joe Gordon, Buddy Myer, Bobby Grich, possibly Sandberg, possibly Biggio) which he's going to get caught up in. |

Biggio??? With Bill James leading the way this guy may be the most mortal of locks.
The VC election of Maz has really opened a Pandora's box. A number of guys who had no shot you now have to take a look at and there's no way to refute the old "Well, if you took Maz you gotta take....".

Well, if you take Maz, then you gotta take all the other players who made more defensive outs for their team than anyone who ever played the game.
I've always been a big fan of Frank White, they called him "Smooth" for a good reason. What's really striking is that he played with different shortstops every year for awhile there, and they all credit him with making them better fielders. Frank's the first guy I'd want to hire as a coach in the minors. |

Prior to the James book, everyone had Biggio as marginal. He looks marginal stats-wise, no major awards, no postseason heroics (the opposite, really). If Biggio doesn't cement his case with a few more good years, it will be very interesting to see just how much pull James has all by his lonesome. (For the record, I think Biggio's a close call, but I'd let him in. I might take Joe Gordon and Lou Whitaker first.) Before someone jumps in, I think we should return to topic. |

I think Whitaker and Trammell are both deserving of the Hall.

Well, I was arguing for years that Biggio was the best player in the NL, that even when McGwire and Sosa hit 70-66 homers that Biggio deserved MVP consideration.
Robbie Alomar is a no-brainer HOFer and Biggio has been just as good. I don't have a problem with Trammell or Whitaker going in, but I think Trammell is more deserving. |

Trammell should only get into the hall with Whitaker. It is kind of difficult to picture one without the other.
Trammell to Whitaker might've been the best modern DP combo, especially due to their time together allowing them to be such a great combo. Whitaker was a better player, but Trammell was quite above average in his own right, and more then competent defensively. Regardless, I don't think Trammell should go in UNLESS Lou Whitaker can go in the same year. The new veteran's committee darn well better do that. |

That would be a perfect scenerio. Although Whitaker is hurt by his dealings with the writers. He was a little flakey and didn't really talk much to the media. |

On thediscussion of 2nd basemen, White,Grich and even Whitiker don't come close to the numbers posted by Sandberg. Rhino should be in before the others.

The BBWA will take care of Sandberg - he has star power.
Frank White was just fabulous at second base. I watched him for years and I can tell he was incredible when a great play needed to be made to save a game. I never saw him as an HoFer though. I'm okay with Trammell but not Whitaker. Being part of a combo should be a reason for NOT putting someone in the HoF.

I agree Ryno will/should get in via the writers, but then again you never know with those guys -- look at Gary Carter, he seemed like a no-brainer with star power too. However, Whitaker's career numbers are surprisingly close to Sandberg's, partially due to a longer career. Sweet Lou lacks the MVP, the black ink, and has much fewer GG's. |
