There are often arguments on here about which player is the best at his position. I'm just wondering if anyone has a player that they consider the worst player currently in the major leagues.
I have my own choice, but I'd like to hear if others have any thoughts. |

That's too broad of a question. Do you mean worst player that is currently in the starting lineup/rotation?

I'd love to say Tony Womack, but it's too broad of a question right now.
Donnie Sadler could be a contender, or Lenny Harris. |

I think we should do this based on regulars as well....Craig, you can tweak this to something you prefer, but I'd suggest:
Position players - Regulars or semi-regulars (defined, say, as having started at least half his team's games) Starting pitchers - Top four per team Relief pitchers - Too much change, so maybe leave them out? Maybe just include 'closers'?

I'll throw Eric Young out there for the sake of argument.

I was thinking of position players and pitchers. To limit it, I'd only include guys who have been at least semi-regulars for at least a couple of years. For position players, I'm thinking at least 100 ABs per season, but I'm not sure how I'd limit pitchers.

The worst regulars with multi-year contracts have got to be Tony Womack and Rey Ordonez. J. T. Snow stinks, too.

Whoever has the worst OPS (or RCAA if you're Sinins-ly inclined) over the past couple years and still starts gets my vote. Using the excellent and well worth the money Sabremetric Baseball Encyclopedia and the period of 1999-2001 with a minimum of 500 ABs, I find that it would be Neifi Perez with a -144 RCAA and Jason Tyner with a .608 OPS. Alex Gonzalez is sixth via RCAA and I hope that's the Florida version tho the other is 19th so its not much better!!!

I'm glad Lee has turned into an adverb! Some of those guys have defensive value, so I'm reluctant to say they're the worst player. Though Neifi Perez is compelling.... |

You're just jealous he made it out of Detroit.
Seriously, he is bad, bad, bad. I think Cruz could probably be a decent bench guy who could play a few positions (like a luis sojo). E.Y. is a terrible 2nd baseman. He could never dream of playing another position. No OBP, no SLG, lots of CS's. Plus he took an 0-7 collar the other day. I remain firm. Eric Young is the most useless player starting in the big leagues. |

EY has become terrible over the past year and a half, but I don't think he's the worst around...
