1) The Yankees placed P Andy Pettitte on the 15 day DL, retroactive to April 16, and called up P Randy Choate.

While he's usually effective (-6 RSAA in 1999, notwithstanding), the next time Pettitte's as good as his W-L record would imply, it will be the first such season since his rookie year in 1995. Pettitte is working on a streak of 6 consecutive years in which his W-L record was better than it should have been.

Here are the longest streaks, among starting pitchers--

Code:
1 Andy Pettitte 6 T2 Chan Ho Park 5 T2 Aaron Sele 5 T2 Dave Burba 5 T6 Russ Ortiz 4 T6 Tom Glavine 4 T8 Shawn Estes 3 T8 Denny Neagle 3 T8 Freddy Garcia 3 T8 Tim Hudson 3 T8 Andy Benes 3

(Method--The pitcher's W-L record is compared to his neutral W-L record, which is determined by using the Pythagorean formula to determine what a pitcher with his ERA would have with an average amount of run support (adjusted to his park)).

While he's not as good as his hype, Pettitte's still an effective pitcher and his 31 RSAA are tied for 10th in the majors, among LHPs, since 2000--

Code:
1 Randy Johnson 129 2 Tom Glavine 65 3 Al Leiter 52 4 Mark Buehrle 50 5 Barry Zito 41 T6 Gabe White 34 T6 Jarrod Washburn 34 T8 Steve Kline 32 T8 Mike Myers 32 T10 Mike Sirotka 31 T10 Andy Pettitte 31

2) The Mets activated 1B Mo Vaughn from the DL and designated OF Tony Tarasco for assignment.

3) The Astros sent SS Adam Everett to the minors and called up P Brad Lidge.

Everett's hitting just .216 SLG, .318 OBA, .534 OPS, -3 RCAA in 14 games and has a recent minor league track record that showed he's not going to be able to hit at the major league level.

Julio Lugo takes over the fulltime SS job. Lugo had -10 and -23 RCAA over his 1st 2 years and is off to a .318 SLG, .273 OBA, .591 OPS, -1 RCAA start in 10 games this year.

Lidge, 25, was the Astros's 1st round pick in 1998, but has had consistent injury problems. His career high in games is just 8. He only has 10 games experience in AA.

4) Whitesox 2B Ray Durham was out of yesterday's game for the first consecutive day. He was given Saturday off, after having an ingrown toenail clipped on Friday and was out of yesterday's lineup, due to a respiratory illness. He was used as a pinch hitter yesterday and is expected to be in the lineup today.

Durham's off to a fast start, with a .517 SLG, .471 OBA, .989 OPS, 8 RCAA in 17 games. He's looking for his first year with a double digit RCAA since 1999.

5) Devil Rays P Delvin James had to leave yesterday's game, with a strained muscle in his right hip.

6) Twins P Jack Cressend's 3 game suspension ended.

7) Orioles OF-SS Melvin Mora missed yesterday's game, to return to Venezuela, after the death of his brother, and there is no expected return date yet.

Mora's off to a fast start, with a .407 SLG, .466 OBA, .873 OPS, 6 RCAA in 17 games. He's never had a positive RCAA in any of his 1st 4 season, or an OPS greater than .750.

8) The Royals called up P Bryan Rekar and sent OF Brandon Berger to the minors.

Rekar started yesterday's game. Minor league P Orber Moreno was removed from the 40 man roster, after he cleared waivers, to make room for Rekar.

9) Cubs C Joe Girardi missed the past couple of games, due to a sprained ankle, suffered when he stepped on a ball during batting practice on Friday. Meanwhile, with Todd Hundley unable to catch, due to a sprained thumb, Robert Machado's been in the lineup.

Girardi's 13 for 13 in having a negative RCAA and he's off to a good start in that area this season. In his 1st 11 games, he's hitting just .207 SLG, .172 OBA, .379 OPS, -4 RCAA. This year, he's moved into the top 50 on the all time worst RCAA list, with -209, and he currently ranks 49th.

10) Cardinals RF J.D. Drew was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to soreness in his right knee. He's expected to return to the lineup tomorrow, while MGR Tony LaRussa hopes Jim Edmonds, who has a sore right groin and right hip, can also return then. The team is off today.

After a 1.027 OPS/47 RCAA season in 2001, Drew is off to a fast start, hitting .580 SLG, .413 OBA, .992 OPS, 9 RCAA in 18 games.

11) BlueJays OF Jose Cruz Jr. left yesterday's game, due to a stiff back.

After setting career highs with a .857 OPS and 14 RCAA in 2001, Cruz is off to a slow start, hitting .333 SLG, .293 OBA, .627 OPS, -4 RCAA in 17 games.

12) Devil Rays 2B Brent Abernathy was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to discomfort behind his knee.

13) Brewers C Raul Casanova was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to a stiff lower back, and is day to day.

14) The Giants are going to Chicago this week, and with the temperatures expected to be the 40s, Barry Bonds may be given a day or two off, to avoid having to play in cold weather.

15) The Reds gave SS Barry Larkin a routine day off yesterday. The day was chosen due to cold weather and the fact that they could combine that with today being an off day for the team.

Larkin admits he's not feeling comfortable yet at the plate. He's off to a terrible start, hitting just .270 SLG, .254 OBA, .745 OPS, -6 RCAA in 15 games.

Interesting on Pettitte.

He also has been in the post season 7 years in a row, no?
Is he the first pitcher to be in the post-season, every year, for the first 7 years of his career? Anyone know?
