Who was the last NL position player to have 4+ IP in a single season? (Hint: He had more K than ER as a reliever in his career.)

Almost. Law's last NL pitching was in 1987, although he did pitch in Oakland in 1991. But I must admit that his 7 appearances is mighty impressive.

We have a winner!
Interesting thing is that when I went through baseball-reference.com to double-check this, it says that Ed Giavanola had a game with 4.3 IP (!) in 1999. Stunned by this, I searched around with google until I found a blurb that said that he had 1 1/3 of an inning. Makes much more sense. |

I didn't search on BR, I used the Teams feature and walked through each NL season from 1991-2001 and looked at the pitching summary to find hitters.
When I found this anomoly (which I verified is an error this AM at retrosheet) I just went over to Google and started searching for an article about the game. |

I actually said that "a friend of mine" noticed the bug anyway, so I didn't try to be a devil about it.
