Thumbs down

And who says there is no honor in golf.

During Thursday's round of the Kemper Open, Greg Chalmers shanked a tee shot. A caddy for another golfer in his foursome sneaked a peek to see what club it was that he had hit so poorly. Chalmers apparently barked at the caddy that it was a six iron and to get away from him.

Unfortunately for Chalmers, this violates the rule about proving assistance to other golfers and requires a two stroke penalty at the time of the violation. Chalmers signed his card without assessing the penalty. On Saturday, he came clean and was DQed from the tournament. Cost him $96,000.

BTW - the Supreme Court has just ruled that Casey Martin can use the cart.

At least he owned up to it.

And I'm thrilled that Martin can use a cart, that protest to begin with was uncalled for.

To tie this back to baseball, tournament director Greg Russell had this to say.

“It just goes to show you what a gentlemen’s game golf is,” Russell said. “If you’re out at first base, you think the first baseman’s going to say, ‘safe?”’
