Cool

I heard this stat driving home tonight and almost went off the road. Ichiro has swung and missed the ball only 8 times so far this year. 8 times without making contact.

In general, this doesn't mean much - - Bill James once did this on a player that was a "never Ks, hardly swings and misses" type - - - "yeah, but all he does is ground out to the 2B all day." In the end, it's all about the results. (And, of course, Ichitie is producing - which is impressive.)

Like you said, Ichiro isn't "in general".

that is amazing.

The more I see him, the more his swing reminds me of Dave Martinez.

Tonight, Piniella said he reminds him of Ralph Garr.

I could see that too.

It's called dicipline. More of the players should take his work ethic to heart.

Actually, his strike zone discipline may be his downfall? He's little different than Soriano - never walks.

Buck Showalter on ESPN said you can't get him out on a pitch on the outer end of the plate. Look for teams to start jamming him all the time.

I'm sure most of you have seen this - Mike Cameron is hitting .255, but his key figures (OBP and SLG) aren't all that much worse than Ichiro's. That not walking stuff really is a detriment.

Nice catch Rob! Food for thought.
