A question of you Yankee fans. Purely a question and not meant to be
so don't get your panties all in a bunch.I know Torre has reservations about bringing Rivera in in tie game situations, but I am surprised he didn't do it last night when Boehringer got in trouble, especially in light of the fact that he did not do so on Tuesday night when Mendoza was in a jam. Has Rivera not been available for some reason or is it simply that Joe won't go there if the game is tied?

This season I Torre has used Rivera in tie games several times. As for why not last night, I do not know. Maybe he thought Boehringer could get out of his own mess. Coming into the game his ERA was under 1.
The rally did happen very fast, hit batsmen, double by Damon. |

You assume we all don't go commando! I think something is up with Mo this year - and the Yanks are doing their best to milk it/keep it quiet. Just IMHO............... Granted, the bar Mo set is crazy - - but, he's been no where near it this year. Bad timing, being in the 1st year of a big contract - - media will eventually start trouble. |

As a former attorney, I'll handle this one. Federal law is clear on this topic. According to the Federal Interstate Closer Act--"No major league baseball team shall be permitted to use its closer in a non save situation unless the closer has not pitched in a while and absolutely needs the work." Having the game on the line isn't grounds for using a closer. This is one of the dumbest unwritten rules in baseball, but it's clearly on the books (at least the unwritten books).

Well I want that unwritten rule taken to baseball's version of the Supreme Court because it is clearly unconstitutional.
Some manager along the way is going to be recognized as a great baseball mind for deviating from the 'rule.'
