Johnny Klippstein - The Answer

Next time someone says "There are too many teams today - there are guys pitching today that shouldn't even be in the big leagues. It's because there are so many teams that these guys are able to stick around" - please ask them to explain Johnny Klippstein.

When they say "Who?" tell them to look up his career and come back to you with an answer.

I remember a story, don't even remember who told it, about a ballpark where there was no phone in the bullpen, so the manager had to resort to sign language to call in a new pitcher. The sign for Klippstein, of course, was two fingers moving like scissors.
