Exclamation Please Watch Your Choice Of Words

I have received some feedback regarding the recent increased frequency of quasi-swearing and suggestive talk (at the NDF).

Frankly, if one person feels uncomfortable about - that alone warrants a reminder that our goal is to have mature discussions here.

Going forward, I am requesting that everyone use the following protocol when it comes to determining if certain language is appropriate or not for our public forums:

1. If it's a word that requires you to use an "*" in it - in order to have it pass our rules requiring that you do not use obscene and/or pornographic terms, then don't use it - - at all, even with the asterisk v-strings.

2. If it's a word that you would not want your 5 year-old child to use when meeting the President of the United States on a live, nationally televised, airing of the Today show on NBC - - such as "sucks" or "shit," etc. - then please don't use it in a public section of the NDF.

I have great confidence that we can conduct ourselves in a mature and intelligent fashion during our discussions here. If for some reason that I'm wrong, and you find that you cannot (or choose not) to go this route, please PM me and I will be happy to recommend several other forums, outside of NetShrine.com, for you to use. Thanks.

Lastly, for those who participate in the Stream O' Consciousness Saloon (http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/...&threadid=1235) and who may be wondering if this protocol applies therein as well, the answer is no - sorta/kinda. Obscene and/or pornographic terms are still NG there - - but, if you lack creativity and have to resort to words like "suck" and "shit" there, that's fine.

What about something like

"What would you expect from <bleeping> Dibble?", or even more mildly

"What would you expect from <expletive deleted> Dibble?"

Those are fine.

Even something ike "#!*@$" in place of <bleeping> will do. It's the actual word - or the word with a vowel or two *-ed out (living little to the imagination) that are not acceptable.

Can I say "Eff you"? I'd be super pleased if my kid said that to Dubya.

FYI - for all - this confirmation of protocol was not meant to single one person out. There has been a significiant movement, again recently, in the wrong direction. Significant in the sense that it's more than a few members. Enough that a few long-time members have reached out to me to voice their concern - - - in fact, some members have even mentioned that they haven't been around much lately because of the direction the boards of taken lately.

So, my address here is to all - - and there is no reason for anyone to use this thread as a confessional.

If we all, each and every one of us, use the protocol confirmed, there will be no problems.

Thanks.

if people object to wide-ranging vocabularies, let them leave. 'nuff said.

I'm not sure if these are comments in favor of, or exasperated with, Steve's request. It appears the latter, but hopefully the former. There are plenty of ways to show anger and cleverness (and if you're good - both) without locker room language. Wide-ranging <> profane or juvenile. The level of discourse is all in the tone you set. to Steve.
