Talking Win A Free NetShrine Shirt On This Q!

A free NetShrine T-Shirt to the first person who can figure out this puzzle correctly.

Name the player at the beginning of this chain (Player A) and the player at the end of this chain (Player B). In case there are multiple possibilities, you have to match the ones that I'm thinking of in order to win the shirt. (No one ever said life is fair line drives get caught and squibs fall in for hits.)

Player A once gave up a big hit while Player 1 was on deck. Player 2, who could easily be confused for Player 1, also once had a big hit in a situation somewhat like the one where Player A gave up the hit. Player 3 gave up that hit (to Player 2) as well as a costly one to Player 4 in another big game. Player B was the player that Player 4's team had used to acquire him.

Still with me?

Who are Players A and B?

Please, no guesses at just one player - - you should offer two names at once. I won't offer which answers are incorrect - - I only will chime in once someone has offered the correct answers for both Players A and B in the same post.

On your mark, get set, go! Good luck.

Okay, when Bob Stanley gave up the winning hit to Mookie Wilson, Howard Johnson was on deck.

And that's about as far as I get before my head implodes.

Wow, such little interest so far?

Here's one clue - - - -

If this were a math calculation, it would look something like:

A = B - 2,154,220

Here is my lame attempt:

Player A: Dave Smith (gave up two-run ninth-inning homer to Dykstra in Game 3 of 1986 NLCS -- Backman on deck)

Player 1: Wally Backman (on deck for Dykstra's HR above)

Player 2: Lenny Dykstra (hit HR off of Dave Steward in Game 6 of 1993 WS)

Player 3: Dave Stewart (gave up HR to Dykstra in Game 6 of 1993 WS)

Player 4: Alan Ashby (hit HR off of Stewart in Game 4 of the 1986 NLCS)

Player B: RHP Mark Lemongelio (or OF Joe Cannon or INF Pedro Hernandez) of Houston Astros traded to Toronto Blue Jays for Alan Ashby.

How could you easily confuse Wally Backman for Lenny Dykstra?

Wow. I can see ya'll are going to need more of a clue.

Player A played his entire career in the same state that he was born.

Player B led the AL in a stat category last year. Although there's a trick associated to that lead.

Player B - Lou Piniella
