That is the only reasonable conclusion from the data. I don't see anything wrong with that any more than I see a problem with a lot of women being in the maternity wards.

while I agree there's nothing wrong with it, comparing them to women in maternity wards is akin to saying 99% of people who play shortstop are biologically designed to being horrible at the plate

I don't think akin to saying they are biologically designated. It just means that, it is a fact that there is a silly "common knowledge" that there is something special about that little area of the field that makes it acceptable to put bad players there. To deny their inepitude is to deny reality.

Kessinger was a very weak offensive player, but was highly regarded as an SS in his day.

Lee, you've missed the point. Boomer wrote that Kessinger was "highly regarded as a SS in his day." I concurred, and used the AS selections as evidence that in fact he was "highly regarded."
You are welcome to your opinion that the folks who select AS players are stupid, but a six-time AS was certainly "highly regarded" in his day - meritorious or not. |

If being selected to the some star game = "highly regarded" then highly regarded is a meaningless term.

highly regarded means many people held his ability in high regard
since he was 6 times voted by many people to the all-star game, that indicates that many people held his ability in high regard whether they were incorrect or not is not the point, the point is that they did and the fact that they voted him into the all-star game proves that |
