I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

Default

A 4 year peak in which he was a good player, but never went over 38 RCAA.

216 RCAA

Reluctant yes.

Thumbs up

Dawson is a guy who fierce controversy exists as to whether he should be in the HoF. Those that "saw" swear by him. Those that simply study what his performance were are less enthralled. Despite hitting 438 HR's he only walked 589 times. Amongst hitters with 400 HR's or more he walked the least of anyone but Juan Gonzalez (who had 3000 fewer AB's). This failure means he has an OBP that is slightly below average despite an above average batting average a good power.

He did appear in 8 ASG's, won 8 GG's, and 4 Silver Sluggers. The guy was no slouch. He did win an MVP for which there is no expalining. Playing in the obscurity of Montreal for the first half of his career cost him the publicity he deserved and the knees he needed for his game.

His RCAA of 216 is very low for a player who is as esteemed as he is. His WARP3 of 108 might more accurately represent his abilities.
