Arrow David Brian Cone "Conie"

He pitched in the major leagues from 1986 to 2003.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

I don't like him.

I rooted for him when he pitched for the Yankees, but still didn't like him.

But, he's qualified.

228 RSAA
4 years with 30+ RSAA
5 year peak (1993-97) in which he was 5th in the majors in RSAA

Any reason for the dislike?

But, by far, much more of #1 than #2

To echo Lee I voted in spite of a third reason to dislike him (I believe it is spelled Yankees). He was really good though....

Woudn't it be "Coney?"

I enjoyed watching him pitch, and if I wasn't busy that evening, I would've gone to Shea to see his last start with the Mets against the Expos (the weather helped my decision too). I was there when he pitched his perfect game. I was there when he pitched his first game in NY after he was traded to the Jays (matched up against Melido Perez, IIRC). A pleasure to watch, when he was racking up strikeouts.

Ya... In.

I voted for Albert Belle. I have a high tolerance for jerks. Even if they're Yankees, which compounds it. I gave him a nod.

I also like jerks, as long as they produce.

And, actually, if opposing a player because of the NY media was really going to be something I would do, I would have to become a big Yankees hater.

So, I really only included the 2nd rationale since the 1st had already existed. It was just a pileon reason.

Actually, the NY press has gotten a lot more bearable now that I'm almost completely boycotting them. I have a friend who emails me all of the articles from all of the NY papers and I can't remember the last time I actually read them. It definitely wasn't this season. Also, with my ipod, the only times I ever hear what the broadcasters are saying is if I pause the ipod to have a discussion with my mother and accidentally hear something they say. I've now put the Harry Potter books on a scrolling cycle, restarting the series each time that I finish it. I'm up to Goblet of Fire, 4th time through and they make an excellent substitute for listening to the YPN broadcasters.

Cone had a fine career with suffient counting number success (194-126) to go along with quality performance (14 double digit RSAA seasons) to get in the NS.

To pitch well for the Sox, Yankee and Mets who can say that?

Just for the record, my problem isn't just with the NY media.

For those of you who are into Harry Potter and books on tape, Lee is right - they are extraordinarily good. The books, of course, are good enough, and Jim Dale is probably the best reader I've ever heard.

If you're referring to the media, nor is mine.

No, I was saying my antipathy toward the Yankees is not based solely on the media, but it's probably not a good topic of discussion here anyway.

Start a thread, I'd like to hear your reasons.

Crash, has this topic been beaten to death? Send me an e-mail; if not, I'll start something.
