Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun.
- Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, in The Sandlot

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

Memorable in the same way that Hal Chase, Eddie Cicotte, and Swede Risberg are memorable. I don't want to see his smug, self-satisfied fat face for the rest of my life. Including the Gallery. Thumbs down.

Let the fun begin! (You wanted to stir things up, huh, Crash?)

Endless discussions of how sharply to demerit a player for PED use is about the most tedious thing on the Internet.

I voted yes. Take away 150 HR, and he's still a very good player.

I don't know what to do about the PEDs; I just know I don't want to talk about it. (That'll probably end up being MLB's de facto solution anyway.)

He came a long way from 3b & "Son of Kong."

He's in.

Even if his career had ended at the point he went to St Louis, and missed those final monster years, I'd still vote yes.

Ignoring the PED's thing McGwire is amply qualified in quantity, quality, and memorability. I am going to vote yes, but if I was a BBWAA member I would be sweating bullets over my upcoming HoF ballot that has McGwire's name on it.

Looking at it from that point of view, if I was a member of the BWAA, I would hope he doesn't get in. Keping him out makes him write a bunch of columns about it per year story. Putting him makes him a 1 year story and then he's old news.

Rob Neyer did a column at the time of this year's HOF induction in which he asked a couple dozen BBWAA memebers whether they'd vote for him. It was about 75-25 no, as I recall.

Undoubtedly. BWAA writers who don't vote for him should have their credentials revoked.

I'm with the 75% who'd vote no.

hasn't that been their position for the last couple of decades ?

Anyway, I voted yes. Had to hold my nose when I did it though.

well he is memorable all right

as a roid freak

i wouldn't be real too surprised if he was roiding in college too

he couldn't run, was a below average glove

i suppose i have to vote him in because we don't hafta disqualify him for doing illegal drugs but man how i hate to have to say yes

i hope he never makes the hall of fame
