I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller! Have you read The Baseball Same Game? |

I said yes. James listed him 12 all-time, just ahead of Pudge, whom I've heard James has since elevated. 1-11 are Berra, Bench, Campy, Cochrane, Piazza, Fisk, Dickey, Carter, Hartnett, Simmons, and Torre. No slouches there. Lee is going to dislike his 106 RCAA, but he was a catcher, a position at which the average was -83 during his career, so his RCAP was 188. Walked a fair amount, top 10 in park-adjusted OPS three times, 5-time GG...pretty fair for a catcher. Played in the 60s, so his offensive stats look weaker than they really are.

His RCAA is not even Top 25 at his position, but he does have a WARP3 of 77 which is acceptable. Finished second once and third once in the league MVP voting. Five-time GG is impressive, as is 11 ASG's. I am going to say yes, but if he wasn't a catcher I wouldn't.

Freehan had only 85 RCAA as a catcher (21 as a 1b) which puts him 32nd all-time among catchers
the guys above him include Darren Daulton, Chris Hoiles, Jason Kendall, Darrell Porter, and Bubbles Hargrave if Freehan gets your vote, all those guys had better get your vote as well a big NO from me |
