He played in the major leagues from 1914 to 1935.

I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller! Have you read The Baseball Same Game? |

He was memorable enough at hot dog eating to get in.

How could I not vote for one of the best pitchers the Red Sox ever had. To bad his career flamed out after 1918.

Of course, he was a no doubt about it hall of famer as a pitcher. He had 60 RSAA through the age of 22 before he stopped being a regular pitcher. He was just as good a pitcher as the likes of Gary Nolan, Scott Stratton, Elmer Smith, Jumbo McGinnis, Frank Tanana, Dutch Loeonard, Jack Taylor, Ed Seward, Dave Rozema, Ralph Branca, Ed Reulbach, Mark Prior, Mark Fidrych, Sadie McMahon, Vida Blue. The entire list of pitchers who were +/- 10 of him make a pretty good same sample size and, as that entire list demonstrates, they are the inner circle of hall of famers.

I don't know about this guy. Something of free spirited "me-first" kind of guy who was always in some kind of contract squabble. Got suspended a few times. One team to get rid of him just sold him figuring they were better off without him. After his playing days couldn't get a job anywhere in the game. Always losing baseballs.

As that noted observer of the human condition Jeff Kent said, how do we know he wasn't on steroids?

Ruth probably would have taken roids if they'd been as readily available as they are now

And, in 1929, after his HR figures dropped from 60 to 54 to 46, Steve would have started a does this mean Ruth was on steroids thread.
