Question Tribe To Pass Chisox?

It's possible.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

It'd be nice to happen the last series of the season, Chicago AT Cleveland. Maybe there would actually be more than the 25,000 fans that come out to games. (I can't complain too loudly, as I don't go very often, but it's a 2 hour drive for me to get there).

My biggest wish is that the Indians win the Central, and the Wild Card comes from the East or West, and the Sox have to stay home. That'd be awesome.

Don't look now, but the Sox are currently trailing my Royals again today...

The White Sox lead the Tribe by 6 games in the loss column with 18 and 16 games remaining, respectively. If the Sox play .500 ball (9 - 9) the Indians have to go 13-3 to tie. How possible is that?? It is possible, of course. The Sox remaining schedule shows 11 road games (KC (1), Detroit (4), Cleveland (3), and Minn (3)) and 7 home games (Cleveland (3) and Minnesota (4)). The Tribe has 7 road games (KC (4) and Chicago (3)) and 9 home games (KC, TB, and Chicago 3 each). So Cleveland has a slight home field advantage.

The Sox and Indians do play each other six time (3 games each home and away). I don't know that that is an advantage to the Indians as much as it is an opportunity.

The real thing the Indians have going for them is that after to day they play the Royals 7 times while the White Sox play the Twins. That is a big difference.

My personal guess is that the White Sox pitching plus the six game lead is too much to overcome.

Down to 4.5 games. See, Buddy Bell is still an Indian at heart. Now, it's time for those Royals to cool back off.

Buddy is simply a disaster. In my mind hiring him is a firing offense. He was asked the other day why he was playing Terence Long who will not be returning to the Royals next year at the expense of younger players, he replied, "That's a good question".

It's nice to see so many games that mean something in mid-September. Could you ask for better races right now than what you have in the AL? 6 teams fighting for 4 spots. (OK, well, maybe 5 teams fighting and one hanging to an ever-declining lead in the division)

If the Indians were to come back, would it be a record? What's the most number of games back a team has been during a season and come back to win the division/league?

The Indians were 15 games back of the White Sox after the games of August 1. They're 29-11 since, and the Sox are 19-22.

If the Sox blown this, it will be right up there with the 78 Red Sox.

To blow it this late would be more like the '64 Phillies.

Except the Phillies played sub-.500 down the stretch. The Red Sox at least were played 0.500 or better ball from mid-August to the end of the season, and even won 8 straight to close the regular season and force the playoff game.

Down to 3 and a half games, with a 3 game series against the Sox starting Monday.

Default Two and a Half games back now.

It must suck to be a White Sox fan right now.

What a game. These are the games the Tribe couldn't win back in April and May. (And the White Sox couldn't lose)

2 more to go this week.

The Red Sox weren't up on the Yankees by 15 games on August 1.
