Thumbs down Bosox Brass and Players Do Anything To Cash In

First, there's this -

Quote:
The New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox rivalry is one of the biggest in sports history. But a new reality series will have it play out among their fans at the poker table rather than on the baseball field.

The teams' two regional sports networks, NESN and the YES Network, have been developing the "Partypoker.net Boston vs. New York Poker Challenge" since last year. The idea is to pit six poker-playing Red Sox fans against six Bronx counterparts in no-limit Texas Hold 'Em poker in a nine-episode series that will air on both YES and NESN beginning March 13. The series will tape next week at the Turning Point Resort & Casino near Syracuse, N.Y.

..........

It was Red Sox co-owner Tom Werner who came up with the idea of playing on the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry.

And, then it was this -

Quote:
HAIR'S JOHNNY! Looks like our favorite leadoff hitter will start the season shaggy. Johnny Damon tells Boston magazine his contract actually requires him to keep the long locks -- no, not his baseball contract, his book contract. In signing the center fielder to write a book about the Sox magical 2004 season, Crown Publishing stipulated that he not cut his hair until after the publicity tour is over. (The book, ''Idiot . . . Or How I Stopped Thinking and Beat 'The Curse,' " is due out April 4.) Asked about those goofy comparisons to God and Jesus Christ, Damon replied, ''It's incredible. . . . What more can you ask for? Even being mentioned in the same sentence as Jesus or God. . . . I mean, those guys are awesome. I'm just a knucklehead."

What's that old line about excessive end zone dancing? Why not act like you've done this before....... Then again, I guess they haven't.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

FYI, Damon, in his book, on Giambi.

http://www.boston.com/ae/celebrity/a..._johnnys_book/

Quote:
Unfortunately the book keeps the Yankee bashing to a minimum. As you can see from this excerpt provided by Crown Publishing, Damon has nothing but kind words for his former Oakland A's teammate Jason Giambi:

''Jason Giambi was the team leader. This guy just ran the best clubhouse. When I went over there, I was in awe. I thought, 'This guy has everything. He has confidence. He's a good ballplayer on the field, but off the field, he's a leader. He has this team together.' Jason always took us to dinner and made sure we were having a good time. He always made sure we had a drink in front of us. He was everything a team could want from a guy. He was a tough guy, but a guy who just loved life. He still drove his old Porsche to the ballpark because it was a good luck charm. He rode his Harley. And what was most appreciated by me, everything about him was positive, because I was living in a world with a lot of negativity.

''Jason remains a close friend. He's the nicest guy, the best teammate I've ever had. . . . He wore his hair long, and he had rock star status. I don't know what the Yankees intend to do with him, but I'd take him as a teammate in a heartbeat. One thing is for sure: without Jason the Yankees aren't going to be as good. The character assassination he's undergoing because he's admitted using steroids hurts me, because he's the kind of guy who'd never do anything to hurt anyone. My feeling is, Jason has conceded that what he did was wrong, and going forward he's going to do whatever it takes to make things better and help ensure others avoid these banned substances. He's a great guy, and I hope he gets through all this. I love him like a brother."

I'm confused. Didn't Damon once take a shot at Giambi?

Yeah but I don't think he is really taking a shot. Actually to me it seems somewhat supportive.

IIRC, at the time, it was more of an outing than being supportive. But, I could be wrong?
