This is Brian Giles' walk season. There's already been rumors that he would like to join his brother in Atlanta if San Diego wants to let him go.
In this era of performance enhancer testing, it will be interesting to see the impact on some heavily muscled players - like Giles - who are in their FA year. I am not saying that Giles was/is using something. I'm just using him as a possible "What if?" situation. If you were in the position where you needed to put up big numbers for a new contract, and you were a user of enhancers in the past, would you try and sneak through the testing somehow this year? It will be interesting to see if someone tries and gets caught - and what impact that would have on their next contract.

I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller! Have you read The Baseball Same Game? |

I would suspect the same contractual treatment players got when cocaine was big in the '80s.
I'd rather you just come out & say "steroids" as performance enhancers cover a wide range of products, be they caffiene pills or creatine. I've always been of the opinion that performance enhancers won't make you a better ballplayer. I don't remember Chad Curtis having a career year after he showed up in camp muscled up. Same with Todd Stottlemyre.

IMHO- I don't think Giles is on the juice...not sure why.
Maybe because he seems more scrappy to me...more of a blue collar player who plays hard every day. Someone who has more heart than ability....part of me wants to beleive that is true.
