Thumbs down Yankees Go Overboard With Spring Training Opener

From http://www.nj.com/yankees/ledger/ind...7817212960.xml

Quote:
THE BUZZ Pregame pomp at Legends Field included introductions of the Yankees lineup, a giant flag unfurled in center field, a ceremonial first pitch by Wade Boggs and a fly-over by military jets.

"It didn't seem like a spring-training game (with) all the atmosphere," starting pitcher Tanyon Sturtze said. "It seemed like the season was getting ready to go -- and I wasn't ready for the season to go."

Said catcher John Flaherty: "It always feels a little different here with the Yankees."

THE QUOTE "I didn't know what was happening when the plane flew over. Seriously, I almost fell down the steps." DEREK JETER

How stupid. What's next - ceremonial first pitch throwers for BP before every game? Fly-bys every time the tarp comes off following a rain delay?

Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun.
- Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, in The Sandlot

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

It's the Yanks. It's to be expected from them

Overcompensating for last year's LCS?

keep in mind- it is very hard to get tickets for these games- and you aren't going to really see much action from the star players.

So- why not give them a treat...most of these pepole probably live down in Florida as transplanted Yankee fans.

To me, this is another example of the Yankees using some of their money for the team...is it over the top? sure....but admit it- if you are a Yankee fan- you wish you were there!!

I think it is fitting for the AL East champs.
