Who pitched the first no-hitter at Dodger Stadium?

I'll go out on a limb here and guess Sandy Koufax

No, not Koufax. But like Sandy, my guy was Jewish.

About when was this done? Regular season, I presume? Bo didn't pitch in the NL (PHI) until 1965, having pitched w/Angels from 62-64.

May 5,1962 for the Angels. They played in Dodger Stadium that year. He did it about a month earlier than Sandy pitched his first.

BTW, contrary to common belief, Bo wasn't Jewish. His father was Catholic, his mother was a Jew who converted to Catholicism. Bo was raised as a Catholic.

And BTW, he wasn't a good Catholic at times either.

I've gotta admit, you two are tag team warriors on this trivia section. Wow, CubFan was right, you two rock!

I'm not sure if this is right or incorrect, but certainly no disrespect intended. Is it true that if your Mother is Jewish, then you become Jewish also? I mean if Mom converts (I don't know how old he was at her conversion), does that mean he did also?

She converted at the time of her marriage. I think strict Orthodox Judiasm mandates that the mother must be Jewish for the child to be Jewish. But, that doesn't keep the child in the religion if he doesn't want to be.

Later in life, Bo stopped drinking and became a "born again Christian"

I got this stuff from jewhoo.com which has a lot of info on who is or isn't Jewish, among other things.

I had a priest in high school tell us in Theology class that Judaism is similar to a nationality, you are always Jewish, just like you are always Irish, no matter if you are inactive in the temple or converted to another religion. So if Father Michael is to be believed, Bo & his Mom are/were Jewish.

I've been using a single source f/info regarding Judaism, and that's Ask the Rabbi, which is a subsite from OU.org. Whenever you see the encircled "U" on kosher food, that's from OU (Orthodox Union).

I've lived amongst Ultra-Orthodox Jews and Reform Jews in NYC, especially in Brooklyn where there are _tons_ of Ultra-Orthodox, like Lubavitchers, Hasidim, others in Crown Heights, Flatbush, Borough Park, Williamsburg, Coney Island, etc. I'd point out that since I don't remember Sandy wearing a Yarmulke, he might not have been an Orthodox Jew. I've seen a young Ultra-Orthodox college basketball player wearing his, so that may give some difference in how Jewish Law is interpreted.

Your comment about Theology priest didn't come in, but I remember there was a Ms. Levy (like the rye bread) who taught some Language Arts in grade school. She'd mentioned that Judaism wasn't just a religion, it was a people, and that made sense. If someone asked "What are you?", most would think race or nationality.

Anywho, you can't tell by looking at someone if they're Methodist or Christian, unless they've got religious garb on, but you can reasonably tell if someone's Jewish, so it's a people to me, not just a religion.

I've known both Reform and Ultra-Orthodox. The Ultra-Orthodox I've known mostly from doing business, places like the old 47th St Photo, furniture & electronics stores, etc., since they usually do lots of mail order merchandise. I've known them, eaten their Kosher food, know meat's never _ever_ mixed w/dairy, but sadly, haven't known any Ultra-Orthodox Jews on a personal level. Sorry.

As to coming around, I was hoping I was closer to there so if I'm coming even closer, I'll take that as a compliment.
