Default Winning Catcher

Who is the only career catcher to register a Win in the modern era (1900-present)? Who caught for him?

Reminds me of one of Bill Monroe's main songs: "The Road is Rocky".

Brent Mayne (of the Rockies) got the win against the Braves on 8/22/00. Ben Petrick was his catcher.

PM, I thought this was a cool question. The last catcher to pull this off was HoFer Buck Ewing. Needless to say, Ol' Buck doesn't have to worry about Mayne joining him there.

Right you are guys.

And I stick up for Mayne's career. You may have forgotten, but he hit .300 twice in the seasons he WASN'T a Royal. And as good a defensive catcher and as good at calling a game as anybody.

Plus, he's a helluva good pitcher.

Are you omitting Roger Bresnahan (who won 4 games during his rookie season in 1897 and caught 974 games for his career) because he didn't catch in 1897?

You're right it was 1889 for Buck Ewing's victory.

Bresnahan does have four pitching victories. All of them were in his rookie season of 1897, but in that year he was only a pitcher. Bresnahan next surfaced in the bigs in 1900 as a catcher.
