Default ESPN.com Page 2 discussion of the #3 (don't worry, it IS baseball related)

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...=debate/041209

Quote:
In March of 2003, Page 2 presented the Ultimate Scorecard -- the greatest athletes for each number, from 0 to 99. It seemed logical to put Babe Ruth at No. 3. He is, after all, still regarded as the greatest baseball player of all time.

But with ESPN's new movie about Dale Earnhardt airing Saturday night at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN, it got us to thinking: Maybe the Babe doesn't deserve the honor any longer

Unfortunately, I'd have to agree that 3 is more readily identifiable with Earnhardt these days than the Babe. Besides, personally, I've always associated the Babe with the nicknames and not the number. The only number that would bring the Babe to mind immediately is 714.

Perhaps that's just me, but anymore with all the 3 stickers all over cars, and memorabilia, how can you NOT think of Earnhardt first?

Is it the man that's #3 or the car?

Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun.
- Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, in The Sandlot

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

They're inseperable. No one has picked up #3 since Dale's passing.
