Lightbulb 2004 Red Sox: What About Next Year?

Too long for a SOTS entry, the one can be found here.

Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

An interesting quote from Red Sox team president Larry Lucchino:

Quote:
``We have a slogan around here: 'Any group of schlemiels can win once.' We gotta win more than once...."

And, if they don't?

I'm still waiting for my SF Giants to win one I had brief tastes of RedSox/Cubs level grief in 93 when the Braves made up like 400 games on them in the second half and won the division on the last day of the season (in the last year of no WC teams, I believe), in 1989 when they got swept by my best friend's stupid Oakland A's, in 97 when they got swept by the WC (though star-studded) Fish (a game I saw in person), in 2000 when they had the best record in baseball and couldn't hit a ball out of the infield against the Mets in the postseason, in 2003 when they got beat by the Fish again, this time courtesy of Jose Cruz Jr., in 2004 when they missed the playoffs by a game after giving away numerous games with bad fielding and no true closer... and OF COURSE, in 2002 when they had a 5-0 lead in the 6th or 7th of the WS and were within 6 outs of winning the whole enchilada.

That last one was probably the worst moment of my sports life ('93 was close...103 wins and no postseason berth??). Anyone else have their own tales of woe?

Yeah, '95 was tough. Three more outs. That's all they needed. Game 5 was a great game, tho'. I still have it on tape, and I pull it out and watch it, on occasion.

Default loving pain!

funny how most of the best playoff series that I have ever watched were ones that the yankees lost- 1995, 2001, 2004 particularly

strange how they are more memorable than the wins

That was a great outcome to that series. Team that had no right to be in the postseason got exactly what they deserved.

Yeah, but all you guys have some wins to help numb the sting of those losses. The Gigantes haven't won once in my lifetime, despite having players like Mays, McCovey, Marichal, Clark, Williams, and Bonds. *sigh*

I did enjoy the 91 WS tremendously, when the Braves got beat by the Twins in 11 innings (I think) on a CG by Morris. I hate the stupid Braves.

The trophy has toured New England, the prized possession of the Boston Red Sox, who finally ended The Curse.

As spring training camps open next week from Vero Beach, Fla., to Peoria, Ariz., there are 29 teams ready to knock off the remarkable Red Sox.

``We have a slogan around here: `Any group of schlemiels can win once,''' Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said. ``We've got to win more than once.''

Is there a way to sing-song chant "schlemiels"?

DARN YOU PEOPLE! I hate to play the Royals card, but...

Giants Postseason record, 1986-present: 19-25.
Yankees Postseason record, 1986-present: 76-39.
Royals Postseason record, 1986-present: 0-0.

19 years and counting.

And, the LL quote continues to keep popping up - - - http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...d=970599119419

Quote:
But it's also now only seven Sundays until April 3, when the Red Sox and Curt Schilling (health permitting) are back in Yankee Stadium — against Johnson.

Opening night. And those Red Sox, The Idiots, with a new slogan.

Okay, it's not exactly official but Bosox president Larry Lucchino is getting plenty of mileage out of: "Any group of schlemiels can win once. We've got to win more than once."

What will he do/say if it does not happen?
