Cool Latest Larry Lucchino Laugher

From the Boston Herald today:

Quote:
Word outta Fenway is that Red Sox sultan Larry Lucchino went baseball-istic when he discovered that Major League Baseball neglected to include Mayor Tom Menino in the Official 2004 World Series DVD.

In fact, Larry was so steamed he's got the League investigating the possibility of some Menino-friendly additions to the best-seller when the DVD goes to a second pressing.

``Larry expressed his concerns and all the possibilities are being investigated,'' MLB spokesguy Carmine Tiso told the Track. On the receiving end of Larry's ``concerns'' was Elizabeth Scott, programming and business affairs veep at Major League Baseball Productions, who got an earful from Lucchino at the Soxumentary's premiere party the other night.

Well, Larry's no dummy. He knows he needs the city's top pol and the Boston Redevelopment Authority on his side to complete the current Fenway facelift plans that include wider sidewalks, lighting and trees on Lansdowne Street.

And what happens if the team troika wants a new ballpark someday??? A little face time for Hizzonah in the baseball video couldn't hurt!

``The MLB is, once again, tone deaf,'' said one City Hall source.

League marketing mavens say since the official World Series video is focused more on the Red Sox post-season, the mayor didn't make the cut (although Gov. Mitt Romney got a sound bite or two).

However, Menino will be ``prominently featured'' in ``Faith Rewarded,'' NESN's more local, spring training-to-championship-parade take on the Sox championship season that MLB helped to produce, Tiso said.

Shame on Laughin' Larry to use the World Series DVD in an attempt to kiss up to the local head pol. Imagine bringing cause for the look-into on a revised edition on the 2nd printing!

Oh, well, I guess it's better than making an illegal contribution to a political campaign or something like that.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

Let's see...

Larry sure makes nice upgrades to Fenway Park.

(There, I said something nice instead of not saying anything at all...)

I wish I could make the link work but Mumbles (Mayor Manino) has his own rap parody.

"Like a cookie the Yankee Dynasty will crumble to the delight of Red Sox fans." It has to be the funniest thing I have ever heard. I hope it makes the DVD.
