Exclamation 4 Weeks Until Jose Canseco Book Arrives

Very soon, Jose Canseco's Juiced : Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big will be out in a bookstore near you.

Reportedly, in the book Canseco "estimates that 75 percent of players" take performance enhancers and supposedly he 'names names.'

This book with either be much ado about nothing - like the David Wells book was two years ago - or, it could be a huge story, depending on the names that Canseco talks about. It's worth keep on the radar to see how the whole thing shakes out.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

How long before this book finds its way into the bargain bin?

FWIW, I can't see myself reading it, as there are much more superior baseball books to spend my hard-earned $$ on.

I can honestly say that the only non-fiction baseball book I've ever read is "The Curse of Rocky Colavito" by Terry Pluto. Although there are many I'd like to read, I just can't seem to get around to it.

The publisher of the book is also releasing this: http://www.harpercollins.com/global_...sbn=0060539097

Some editors get all the luck.

I have no interest in giving my time or money to Canseco. I assume the media and baseball higher ups will look through the book and the named names will leak out without me wasting a moment or a dime.

Pretty obvious which one we hope has pictures.

No need to acquire the Canseco book as ESPN will read it to us once it is released.

And some of my $$

Didn't Canseco have a 900 number for a while. For a quick minute, the guy had the world in his hands

And, it begins!
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/st...p-238361c.html

Quote:
You've never seen Jose Canseco like this: huddled in a bathroom stall at the Oakland Coliseum, jabbing a hypodermic needle into Mark McGwire's bare behind.

Or McGwire and a young Jason Giambi heading into the men's room to inject each other with the anabolic steroids that would turn them from lanky lads into musclebound behemoths.

Bad boy Canseco alleges those and other mind-bending scenes in a soon-to-be released tome that is already shaking the world of baseball.

In "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits and How Baseball Got Big," Canseco claims he personally injected some of the biggest names in baseball - including All-Stars Rafael Palmeiro, Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez, among others - with performance-enhancing drugs.

Probably all true, but he doesn't have any credibility with the public so it will all be brushed aside. On a related note, Todd Helton has reported to camp this year "much lighter"

Rafael Palmeiro taking a performance enhancer? He would never do something like that, would he?

I feel this is going to be too upsetting. It was one thing to wonder, but does anyone want to know?

For the record, I would be beyond devastated if I found out *insert favorite player here* juiced. But 10 years ago I said that about Pete Rose betting on baseball.

Well, it seems someone wants to read this book - http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ba...p-238550c.html

Quote:
The Daily News story yesterday created a firestorm that reached all the way to the White House, where officials tried to gauge how strongly Canseco accuses President Bush of ignoring steroid abuse when he was general managing partner of the Texas Rangers. The public seems to be getting interested as well. According to Amazon.com, the book ranked around 117,000 in Web-based sales rankings before the Daily News story, and went as high as No.130 yesterday.

Interesting topic came up today on the M&M show on ESPN Radio - in discussing the book with a legal analyst...........

If those "outed" in the Canseco book feel that what he is saying is not true, then they should sue for libel - - but, if they don't sue, then, does that mean Jose is telling the truth?

Stewart's making a statement here, no?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1986479

Quote:
Ex-A's pitcher Dave Stewart couldn't say one way or another whether Canseco's claims are true.

"I could never say 'Josie' is a liar," Stewart told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I don't like his work ethic, and I don't like him as a teammate. But one thing I can't say about him is he's a liar.

"As far as what Josie's saying, I can't deny it or verify it. I'm not going to pretend it didn't happen because I don't know. We weren't in the same circles, but I'd have to say he definitely knows what's going on in his circle. Nobody I associated with on the team was a steroid user [among the players Stewart mentioned: Carney Lansford, Rickey Henderson, Dave Henderson and Dennis Eckersley].
