Cool Yankees Trade Contreras

I've become convinced that "Contreras" is spanish for "Irabu" - so, I'm happy here.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Does this mean the ChiSox are throwing in the towel? I thought Loaiza was one of their anchors on the mound. Or is it a contract thing where they were going to lose Loaiza after this season anyway and they wanted "something" for him?

Personally, if they're throwing in the towel, my heart will not be broken.

As long as the ChiSox are feeling generous, we have a hot prospect named Jimenez up at Buffalo ...

I have to think that the trade breaks down this way -
Esteban was gone in two months. Contreras has two more years on his contract.
Sox probably like his potential - he does have nasty stuff - and the fact that he's locked up.
Yanks probably figured - at worst, Esteban is a guy that will give you 6 IP each start and keep the other team to 4 runs. With Contreras, you never felt that he could go 6 without maybe giving up 6 or more. Many times, you didn't even know if he would go three - - and, with the Yanks pen taxed, you can't have that.

Esteban is gone in 2 months, and the Yanks will take the draft pick - he's probably worth a supplemental 1st rounder, at the least.

I like this move for the Yankees and the Indians and Twins; I don't see it helping the ChiSox win their division

Well this trade isn't turning out the way I expected.

The Post has learned the Yankees and Rangers are close to a deal that would send Loaiza to the Rangers. The Yankees are going over a list of minor leaguers provided by the Rangers two days ago.

Would NY give up this quickly, or this this just another NY Post special?

Meanwhile, Contreras is 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA in his 4 starts with CWS. And he finally got the Boston monkey off his back.

Yanks have 6 SP - moving Loaiza would make sense - and, the Rangers need any SP they can get.

Did Contreras pitch that well v. Boston? The monkey may still be around......

He had a 2-hit, 4 BB 2nd inning. And was very good in the other 5 innings. In the past, when the wheels came off, they stayed off. He left the bases loaded in that bad inning and gave up 2 hits and a walk the rest of the way.

4 ER in 6 IP, no?
I'd still like to see him one more time v. Boston, for sure.

Yep, if that's the stat you want to cite, you're correct. My take is he pitched well enough for his team to win.

By the way, I think the Yanks trading Contreras made sense. I don't think he'd ever be able to pitch well enough (not that he did) to meet their expectations.

Loaiza had 39 RSAA in a career year, -36 RSAA for the entire rest of his career. There's absolutely nothing surprising when a pitcher with that kind of track record pitches poorly.
