I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Only one problemwith this article. You consider the Mariners a strong team this year?

I think you missed the word "some"?

The Boston games are against some very strong teams: Oakland, Seattle, Anaheim, and Texas. (The Oakland and Seattle games – 7 of the 13 – are on the road.)

Oakland, Anaheim and Texas would be the strong ones. Seattle, agreed, not strong at all. Better of late, with Bucky, et al. But, not strong.

Would be ironic if Seattle had a big series v. the Sox, led by a "Bucky" 'tho.

Sorry, the way it was written it implied to me that all those teams were strong in your opinion.

Happy 9 week birthday baby JamesI!

After the scores of the games tonight, expect to hear more buzz about the great Red Sox comeback.

On the YES broadcast tonight, they said that Derek Lowe, after the Yanks lost on Sunday, jumped up and talked some smack about taking over the Yankees. This true? Anyone else hear this?

I have lots of beefs with Selig, but, on the whole (barring the screw-ups with this created by interleague play) I like the unbalanced schedule. If you win your division, you win by beating your division. It makes sense.

As for the specifics of this SOTSC... no one has said as much (or, at least, I haven't seen it in the press), but the rest of the string is essentially playoff baseball for Boston, Anaheim, Oakland, Texas, and to a far lesser extent, NY (again, check back in two weeks).

Do I think Boston can take over NY? Well... yeah... they could. Do I expect that to happen? Not really. 10.5 games is a lot to make up at any time of the year, and having come back 7 (as of this AM), and about to face one of the toughest stretches of the season... 3 games in 4.5 weeks is a lot to ask.

All that said, the meetings between NY and Boston later this month could be more meaningful than anyone expected back in late July... and, given the strength of the West, could go a long way to deciding who can make October plans and who can talk about next year.

Isn't this the way you it in September?

I wonder if ESPN will now screw up the games of 9/19 and 9/26 and make them 8 PM starts?

Come to think of it, why is the 9/25 game a night game? On a Saturday?

Night games on the 19th and 26th would be worse for BOS than NY. NY is still at home on the 20th. After the 26th, NY travels BOS-NY while the Red Sox travel BOS-TB.

As for Saturday, Boston plays several Sat. night games to not compete with the FOX broadcast. Most other teams seem to do that as well.

Thanks Red Seat.
Funny, I wasn't even thinking about the teams with the Sunday night games - but the fans. With the 8 PM starts, it screws up anyone at the game who has to go to work the next day. For me, if I go to a Sunday night 8 PM game, I get home around 1 AM, just for an average game.

Could not the Sox play a 4 PM game on 9/25? The Yanks do that sometimes to avoid FOX.

Just looked at something.........
Last year, on 6/11/03, Houston embarrassed NY, but good. I think Torre called it the worst performance by one of his Yankee teams. Yanks then went 15-2 in their next 17 games.

Well, if yesterday was not a slap in the face, prepare to fight, wake up call for NY, then nothing would be. It will be interesting to see if they can match the 2003 team over the next 2-3 weeks.
